I am shooting an 80lb draw bow with heavy arrows. I was wondering if anyone had an idea how much speed Ill lose if I lower to 70lbs?
Try this site. It hurts my shoulder just reading #80 http://www.ultimatebowhuntingtv.com/index.php/archery-tech-tips/archery-calculators/
haha Im not even that strong. Think its just because I shoot a lot, that's one of my only good muscles lol
If you turn it down to 70, your testicles will shrivle up like raisins. Any lower than that and they will fall off all together. :P
Maybe 25 fps I would guess. I doubt any game in.....probably the world.....would be able to tell the difference. I just dont see a point to 80lb bows honestly.
I used to shoot #75 and now I'm down to #63 with heavier arrows. Slower but quieter and much better penetration.
Bewteen one and a half and two and a half feet per second for each pound of draw weight. Varies per bow.
You may lose about 20 fps. It will only be noticeable at longer shot yardage. I say 40 yards or more. Nothing wrong with pulling 80 lbs. It is easier for some than it is for other. I can do it sitting on the floor. I see guys pulling 70 lbs that have to dip their shoulder, drop or raise the bow in order to draw back. That is EGO telling them to ignore that their body is saying Too Much!!As long as you can hold the bow in front of you and draw without the bow dropping or being raised, Let 'Em Fly!!
I see it as one of my few work outs lol. Seems dumb to bench 130 when you can bench 150. Same with drawing a bow. But, with the target panic and season right around the corner, its a good move for now. I lowered about 8 lbs, went from 293fps to 281 fps. Not bad. With 505g arrows, I still think Im a bit deadly. Lucky for the deer, they out smart me more often then not
For the love of God young man, lower that draw weight before you destroy your shoulder!! Trust me, even if you lower it to 70lbs, nothing will be that fast to get out of the way, geeeeeeeezzzz! Good to be young and strong! Be safe brother
I like your setup but unless you are hunting large game, i.e. buffalo you really don't need 80#. Most bow charts I have seen show a 5 to 6 fps loss between 60 and 70 lbs when shooting an IBO arrow. That does account for a drop in weight from 350 grains to 300 grains in weight. If you lower your weight to 70 and lose 20 fps and don't change arrow weight then you are still shooting 275 from your signature. With that speed and arrow weight you still have roughly 84# of kinetic energy, which is good for just about anything. I would suggest swapping limbs if you drop the full 10 lbs and also look at the arrow spine to make sure its wont be too stiff after the drop. But if it makes you happy and you are comfortable Either way good luck keep shooting!!
To All... John is a HORSE of a young man and could probably pull 100#'s. He's also crazy See you in the morning young man to view some [new] property. Oh, I just got a lead on some other property too.
44" inch chest and a 4 size hat? Give him a and if that doesn't work . All in good fun John! But seriously.... :p
