I started out on a Fred Bear take down recurve around the age of 9-10.. then used my Dads original Allen Compound when I turned 12.
My first bow was a Pro Force. I killed my first deer and several subsequent deer with that bow when I was in high school out of my Myles Keller climber on public land. I still have the stand and it is one of my favorites.
Martin, don't even know what year it was. I still remember shooting it. I could see my arrow arch in the air and wonder when it would reach my target. Todays bows are just sick in what they can do!
I've had the old stick & string in my hands since I was very young, so technically it was a toy with suction cup arrows. Then there was a Bear fiberglass longbow, a break-down recurve, a Bear compound, and my first hunting bow was a Darton SL50. There have been many different brands and models since then.
Bought my 1st bow 23 years ago in Cour DA'lane Spokane on holidays at the old Silver Elaphant store. Paid $115.00 total for it with all the options too ,it was a Martin also and at 50 yards ,like someone else said you could watch it arch as it aproached the target. LMAO . Bow's have come a long way. An old longbow that belonged to one of my older brothers. I shot that thing until I experienced a catastrophic failure (the bow broke into 3 pieces). Then in my late 20s I got a Browning Deluxe Nomad compound that I shot until I went into the Army. After the Army I went into recurves - took my first deer with a Wing takedown recurve, then found out about Bingham Projects and proceeded to make my own takedown recurve, which I still have and occasionally shoot. Just this year I decided to try a compound with sights, release, etc, and got an old (but looks like new) Darton SL50. I'm feeling really good about this year's hunting season, and if I continue to enjoy the Darton, I'll be looking to step into the modern age of archery (like maybe a Darton 3800) come next year.
It was a 95-96 (I forget which) Browning youth bow. After that was a '99 Browning Serria and last year I got a '13 Bear Legion.
Neat thread. Started with a Shakespere recurve. Had no idea what I was doing (no one in my family did archery). I liked shooting though so I saved my lawn mowing money and birthday money for a compound. Bought a Browning Magnum.
Mine was a PSE Typhoon. Actually sold it to a buddy of mine that still shoots it. Have a deal with him that when he finally decides to get rid of it I get it back. Not to ever shoot again or anything just would like to have it! Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
I had a bear brave bow when I was a kid... I loved it... then I kept getting into trouble as my dad would work around the yard find c hipmunks and squirrels arrows to trees... yeah I was a bastard my dad said... lol
A stick with piece of string tied between the ends lol but first bow i ever hunted with was an old renegade when I was 12.
