3/4 of a mile through some thick arse bush. It's wasn't even my buck, it was my brother's. Heavy buck too, 200+. Buck on the left.

But there are a few areas that I'll be hunting this falls that could produce an even longer drag to my canoe or boat. I think my "shooter" criteria increases the further in I go:D

So how about you? What was the longest or worst drag that you've had?

We don't drag up here, we quarter and pack them out. My longest pack was 2.97 miles, according to the GPS.

About 3/4th of a mile, with a treestand, backpack and bow. I now try to take everything else back to the truck first because that really sucked

3/4 of mile with stand and bow alone. It was only a doe, but it got heavy towards the end!

Last year. 2.5 hours, uphill probably 400 yds, slight grade up the next 200. Had all my gear too.

Unfortunately we can't quarter until they are registered here in Wisconsin unless you have a disabled permit.

Actually, I believe that law was changed two years ago and you can indeed quarter a deer up and then register it. I'll have to look it up.....

I had to drag my first buck about 1/2 mile through a strip mine. I since purchased a deer cart and never go hunting without it.

    Probably around 2-3 miles,

1/3 of it by hand, 1/3 by cart (till it broke), and the rest by drag rope....

Too bad she only weighed about 70 lbs :D

A few of the bear we've dragged have been 2 mile hikes through nasty thick junk. Some of them bear were 300lb bear. Bear drag 10 times harder then a whitetail, they suck dragging!! But It's all worth It In the end.

I picked up a drag buddy at the end of last season, and I'm looking forward to testing it out this fall. Shultzy, do you think they would work for bear? I'd guess they'd atleast give you a good handle...

I am pretty sure they discussed changing it but it never happened. I'll look it up as well.

Edit: From the 2009 WI DNR regs.

    Deer Registration
Deer must be kept intact, except for field dressing and skinning, prior to registration.
The lower legs, up to the tarsus joint (“ankle or hock”) on the hind legs and up to the
carpus joint (“wrist or knee”) on the front legs, may also be removed. If the skin or
legs are removed prior to registration, they must be kept with the carcass until after
    the deer is registered.
    Exemption:
Deer may be skinned and quartered by persons holding a Class A or B
Disabled Permit. All parts must be presented at the time of registration.
In addition to the tagging requirements,
all deer must be registered at a DNR Deer

Registration Station. Registration forms are available at deer registration stations.

Probably only about a hundred yards, we have a tractor that does most of the work.

My 'longest' drag was a 2.5 year old buck that was only about 200 yards from the truck.

It took me about 2 hours to get it to the truck and loaded tho'. I think I spent nearly an hour just trying to get the dang deer on the cart. I'd pull it part way on it as far as I could (which wasn't far) and then I'd grab the handle and jump up and down trying to leverage the deer off the ground. The deer was just too heavy.
I tried laying the cart on the side and strapping it to the cart and then flipping the cart and deer upright... nope.. not going to work.

Eventually I dragged the deer and cart over to ditch and was able to get the deer far enough on there to pull/drag the cart. I had to push down while pulling and I was already beat so that was pretty slow and then about halfway to the truck the deer fell off. :( There was another handy ditch and I loaded it back up and finally made it to the vehicle. Thankfully, I had put the hitchhaul on the truck because there would be no way I could get it into the bed.

I think I would have been way ahead to just put a rope on the buck and drag it that way.

I have strategically added some pounds to myself so that I might have an easier time the next time I need to use that cart. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

We use something that does pretty much the same thing and It don't cost a thing. We tie a rope around the back of the head and about 3 feet from there we'll tie the same rope to a stick that's about 3 feet long and from there we'll tie another stick about 5 feet from the other one to the same rope. There can be as many as 4 of us dragging If he's a big bear. Otherwise we just use one stick so 2 of us are dragging. Understand the contraption I explained? Kinda hard to explain.
