so Im a Boys fan and have been since 1981...I love the Boys and I hate Jerry...But Im not sure about Romo...I loved him, I hated him, and now, Im just not sure...is he a good QB? will he take this team to the playoffs? Please answer this without a team bias in mind, wether you hate or love the Cowboys, do you think Romo has what it takes?
He is a good... borderline great QB. He has the tools and skillset to be an elite QB... my personal opinion is that he needs to work on ball security and the biggest thing is having more consistant play calling from Jason Garrett. Romo has put up some unbelievable numbers so far in his career, better than alot of the best QB's ever... Montana, Marino, Bradshaw, Elway, ect.. Romo now has a big play/deep threat target in Miles Austin... something he didn't have with Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams starting... I would actually like to see more of Sam Hurd as well... and less Roy Williams. Another major problem Romo has had is pressure... no other quarterback has had to deal with the media pressure and ridiculous standards set for him. Last season, even before the OTA's and Mini-Camp people were predicting Romo to lead the Cowboys through the entire season, playoffs, and SB without loosing one game. Romo continues to mature and he has a very high ceiling, the problem is that he was near that level his first several starts and as he never got to go through the up's and down's of a young QB. His performance speaks for itself... but he is just one part of the team and the team has to play well to win. I am sick of hearing everybody throw the losses on Romo's shoulders... sure, some where his fault but there were many times that the defense lost the game... the Bronco's game comes to mind. Right now Romo has a passer rating of 94.7.... his passer rating for his monster 2007 season was 97.4.... he has maintained an average passer rating of 94.7 for comparrison... Peyton Mannings career avg. passer rating is 95.4
He is top 15, somewhere better then average. He can have HUGE games, and terrible games. He' s like a Matt Hassleback...wins, but only so much.
Romo is a good QB. He just needs some good coaching which he will never get from Wade Phillips. Wade is just Jerry Jones puppet. The Cowboys would be much better off if the owner would hire a GM like Parcells and just sit back and watch the team win. He won't do that because he has too big of an ego. If he would have left Jimmy Johnson alone he would still be coaching the team and who knows how many super bowls they would have won. The biggest problem with the Cowboys is the idiot owner!!
long time cowboys fan here.. since the Staubach days.. Love or hate is pretty much it with Dallas, I'm pissed Jerry ran Jimmy off and Bill too.. The cowboys are talented right now and there is nothing more that I would love to see .... Myles Austin make T.O. a distant memory.. But I am still not confident that they can sustain a high level of play week in and out through the season with the current coaching staff... they do have talent though .. as does Romo.. But consistency.. let me see a 10 plus win record and. then a playoff berth and win.. then I may start to believe again..
After he got hit in the head on that run he started playing good. I think he needs to get knocked in the head a few more times.
romo is good, but he's not a marquee qb like brady and he never will be... at the end of the day you can throw for 5000yds per season, drop in 40td's and 0 int's... if he aint gettin 'em to the big game he'll never be a great one... when the boys rise back to the top of the nfl heap as they were under aikman and staubach he will forever be living in their shadow... personally, i think the rest of the team makes romo look better than he really is... he's good enough to get them to the playoffs, but that's about it... he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as montana, young, favre, marino, elway, kelly, etc... put some rings on his fingers and maybe we can talk...
What I think of Tony Romo is that he can be pretty good in less important games and pretty bad in big games.
Like most have said thus far, Romo is a borderline great NFL QB. Even though he's been in the league 7 years or so, its hard to remember this is only his 4th year as an NFL starter. Granted, some people come into the L and succeed at a very high level their very first year, but it usually isn't till the 3-5 year range when greatness is determined. I mean, didn't Aikman go 1-15 his first year as a starter (albeit was his Rookie year). This year and next year will tell the tale I'd say. Being a 'Boys fan I hope he heads towards greatness rather than mediocrity.
great talk gents.. I like the guy, but he just throws a lot of games away by making one or two bad decisions a game...when the O line does it's job, he does well...the numbers don't lie...our defense is very inconsistent.. D. Ware is a beast, but Ellis was needed as well as Canty...we should have kept em... our linbackers are garbage, our secondary is pretty much garbage, and our recievers are garbage, except for Miles and Witten...those guys can play.. Crayton, Williams, Bennet, are all garbage IMO... I mean I have seen zero talent in R. Williams...Romo is good, but great?? nah. Not yet I guess...but he needs to get us down the stretch to the play offs and win.
