Instead of scent control, Just say fine but at least hunt the wind. Reference every bowhunting article ever written. Eventually he'll find himself in the situation where the wind is perfect, the buck comes in, then the wind changes and the buck busts him with his nose before he gets a shot. Lesson learned. You can see and kill bucks without any scent control. You have much better odds the further you take it.
Update!!!!! I get down to Kentucky to hunt with my buddy and he walks out in all brand new very nice camo. He says is this good enough. So I thought great, we are moving in the right direction. The first hunt he's sitting in his stand and this huge doe walks in. Well, he's sitting up wind from her and he said the doe never looked at him. She just started blowing and took off. She stopped about 80 yards away and continued blowing for about 5 minutes at him. Our next hunt he says hey, got any of that soap I can use. I brought an extra bottle. I said yeah, here. Keep it, it's yours. Then we get outside and he says have any of that spray. You mean cover scent, yeah, that stuff he says. Didn't take long. Plus I think he's already hooked on bow hunting even though he didn't even get a shot.
One can feel a lot better about a doe blowing at them when they can say, "well, I took all the scent control measures I could and played the wind the best I could." Get busted by a nice buck and it hurts no matter what lol
I can see why some people have the mindset that all that crap is for suckers, it is in a way because no product prevents you from getting busted by scent. Also Scent Lok is now promoting a clothing line to wear when scouting or checking trail cameras, what a bunch of crap people are way over thinking the effect of human scent and deer behavior.
I am not gang busters crazy over it, I don't use any scent lock products and I buy the H&S cover scents and soaps which are one of the cheapest on the markets. I've tried a couple of the more expensive ones but I think the H&S did a better job. If it ain't broke, why fix it.
