I am new here so first I will say hi to everyone HI I have a mission to take a deer on the ground with a bow, I am somewhat new to bow hunting (2nd year) I have hunted most of my life (mostly small game ) but have killed about 10 deer,2 with a bow. There is a super nice 10 point that stays in a large acorn grove up on a hill that is SOOOOO hard to get to without making tons of noise (leaves, twigs ,rocks) I have spooked him once going in and am afraid that if I keep going up there that I will push him out and loose him. What would you do in this situation?
trail cams are nice to have in these situtations, because you can see when the deer are there and when they are not. What time of the day did you kick him out? I would try moving in a couple of hours earlier next time. Next time you could try a different route to the top of the hill???
I have just been trying to get in there as quickly and as quietly as I can, the leafs here in Kentucky are like hunting on bubble wrap:0 . I hate that I spooked the one deer that I was after, I hope that he don't vacate the area and leave for good. There is tons of activity sign in the area so I know it's a hot spot, just wish it was not so dang hard to get setup. I have only been hunting with a bow for 2 years and am still learning the do's and do not's, problem is I am learning them the hard way.
I just hunted Munfordville KY last weekend , a buddy has a cabin there , i do 70% of my hunting spot and stalk and the best time is at day break , leaves are still soft from the due and i can sneak around like a predator.......lol......it will change as the season gets colder , but right now in our area morning is best for hunting on the ground
As madman stated try to setup between his bedding and the oak grove. What time have you see him there? If you are seeing him in the evening he is hitting the oak grove from his bed if its the morning he hits it on his way to his bed. I've had good luck with hunting bucks by getting in early for morning hunts I leave atleast 1.5 hours after I'm setup for sun up. Evening hunts I'll setup no later than 12:30-1:00 in a spot the deer hit late in the day. So any noise you make in the dark can be ok if you have plenty of quite time as I call it. If you have any topo's of the area post them they can really pinpoint possible bed locations.
