My boy wants to get into hunting w/a bow. I know which bow that we are going to get. Now my rules are, that I won't arbitrarily buy him a bow out right. He has to pay for half of it, so that he appreciates what he gets, and not treat it like crap. So here's the question. Sportsman warehouse is giving public saftey/military personnel 20% off this Sat. So do I remain loyal to the proshop I go to, or save the kid some money? We're talking about $80 in savings w/arrows & bow. Which to him, is a lot of money, since he's only 14 & stacks wood for occasional cash. I've purchased most of my archery stuff at my pro shop,& kinda feel like I'm being a turncoat by looking to buy at the big sportings goods store. I'm just not sure which way to go. What are your thoughts?
I say if you support your local most of the time i see NO reason not to save the lad some money. I know I pay alittle more just to shop at my local but 14 years old save him the money!! Walt
I would say save the boy some money. Once he is into it take him to the local guy. The local guy will understand.
Check your local shop and see if they can cut you a deal or have a closeout bow since the 2009 stuff is coming out. If they can't get you to a price that works for you then do what you have to do.
I'd ask the shop if they can cut him a deal. If you're a good customer and they're a decent shop, it could happen.
You're stuck with quite the ethical, and practical, delima. On one hand, it's good to teach the lad that loyalty and patronage are good things. Take care of your pro shop, they will take care of you. But.....at the same time, by getting the one at sportsman's warehouse, you would be teaching him to be thrifty, and save money and look for deals........I'm glad I don't have to make that decision..... I think though, in this case, the pro shop would be a better choice. As you know, you get service from a pro shop you can't get anywhere else.
I understand trying to save money, but at the same time you need to take care of your neighbors. chances are that $80 will stay close to home in the long run. Also, talking with the local guy, he may give you a deal. Making a less on a sale, is better than no sale at all. I agree with mobow, you probably will get much better service after the sale with the pro shop.
I'd go to the Pro Shop and talk to them and see if they can cut you some kind of deal, if not, buy it from them anyway!
This is what i would do Hank. Buck Rub will match or beat any price on a new bow. I can't hurt to go in and talk to them. Let me know If you want to go up I will go along.
I would go to buck rub, but quite simply is just too far for any service. I think I'll call my shop and see what they can do. Maybe they'll match the price. I'd rather go to the proshop, but saving the little man some green is important at his age. It's definitely not an easy decision. 20% off a bow is a pretty good chunk of change.
Jason is dead on here. I know my local shop does a very good job of cutting breaks where they can to their loyal customers and this is the perfect time of year to score a great price on a 2008 bow. You have to remember you will almost always be able to beat your local shop in price with Bass Pro, Cabelas, and all the internet sites. If you don't at least give your local shop a chance to compete for your business, then their may come a day when you don't have a local shop.
I mo going with saving some green. This way you can see how interested he is first before spending more Jack $$
