I think its very situational. On a bird Ive never hunted, once he responds to a call, I do like others said and stop calling, give him the old silent treatment. If I can visually see him or hear him getting hung up I'll give it an hour or 2, then try a little quiet purr here and there. I know he heard me, so I try to make them get impatient before I do. Turkey hunting is like bi polar hunting, seems like they either come right in dumb as ever, or it takes some serious patience, you just never know what kind of hunt its going to be.

See... this is where this turkey hunting stuff is going to be hard. An HOUR or TWO?

Yeah, but those couple of hours crawl by when your sitting at the base of a tree half in the fetal position with your gun on your knees!

Exactly my point, mm... don't know if I'll ever be able to hold out for that long without wanting to get up and move.

Heck, I'm ready to go hit the next spot after 30 minutes! :)

Haha, come on now Greg. Its not that different than sitting in a stand 20' up for hours waiting for a deer to come in range. Actually sometimes its much more fun because youre actually interacting with a bird/birds, its when they get tight lipped that it becomes like whitetail hunting where you have to just sit tight and wait them out, or try and run and gun them, but Im more of a stick out turkey hunter. One day they are screamimg from the roost right on in, the next day the barely make a peep. I like being eye to eye with critters, makes it that much more fun to hunt.

Generally when they quit talking they are heading towards you, but to tell you the truth I fall asleep when the action slows down!
