So I went out this evening on our farm for a little whitetail action as gun season opens Saturday and dogs will be in the woods and trying to get a decent buck before then. I took my bow as well as my muzzleloader to a new stand that I sat in yesterday for the first time. Yesterday I had just the muzzleloader and had a doe and her fawn walk right under the stand about 15 yards. Let them go and saw a total of 11 deer in about an hour and a half.

So I decided to try it again today, and I really got a treat. Decided to take both the bow and ML just in case. Had 3 small deer come out at about 4PM about 150 yards from my stand. Watched them eat a bit for about 10 minutes before they went back into the woods at about 100 yards from my stand. Then about 5 I am looking across the field and saw what appeared to be a couple of deer about 350 yards from my stand. I pick up the ML and look through my crystal clear Nikon Omega scope and see what appears to be the buck of a lifetime chasing a couple of does. I grunt a couple of times loudly and the next thing I know they are coming wide open towards me. Within a matter of seconds they were at about 200 yards from me. Looking through the scope I actually see there are 2 bucks and 2 does, but the one buck I saw at 350 yards is a real hummer. I could count at least 10 points and I am talking HEAVY HORNS on his head. I was able to get him within 175 yards of me, but he was more interested in the 2 does and he wanted them all for himself. He was snorting and giving that smaller buck a fit. He would chase him off and come back to the does, it was my first time seeing this in person. I wish I had a camera for this.

My delimma is this. I want this guy bad, he is by far the nicest buck I have ever laid eyes on in person...dead or alive. I can't hunt tomorrow am, because unfortunately I have to let an employee of mine go in the morning and have a couple of meetings, but will be back out tomorrow evening. When I thought they had disappeared I got down from my stand, it was dark and could only see about 75 yards. Walked towards where I parked my truck and they either spotted, heard, or smelled me and took off in the other direction. What should I do?

I am working on posting a picture of info of where the stand is located and if ya'll think he will be back tomorrow evening. I will have that up shortly. I really wish I had a picture of him, this is some kind of deer.

Below is the photo of the area. The red lines are basically our property lines for our farm. The "X" is where the stand is, I plan on putting some more up for next year in this area, "a" is where I first spotted the deer about 350 yards out, "b" is about the closest they got at about 175 yards, he was broadside, "c" is apparently where they were in a low spot in the field when I started to come out, "d" is the direction they headed when the busted me, and "t" is where my truck was parked.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do ya'll think he will be back tomorrow, or slight chance?

from my experiences if he didnt breed that doe yet and your in that does core area then you will more than likely see him again. this year i saw a big one with a doe that i saw frequently and i saw him chasing one morning, that evening , and the next evening.. but after that he disappeared so i just guessed he bred the doe.. but aslong as hes still chasing you got a shot

I would get back in the woods off the field. I would hunt the downwind side of any known doe bedding area/thicket I could find that was pretty close to where you saw that buck or where you KNOW where does frequent.

On stand now. Any suggestions on calling? Just did a couple of bleats followed by a few click grunts. Hoping he is going to show himself.

I would only use the call as a last resort... I would hunt mobile and move right to the edge where you 1st saw them as soon as possible. They only stick around with does they breed for a couple days. Your most likely not going to call in one of those does, and that buck is not going to want his does around other bucks so he will likely go another direction if you call.
