Nutria and mountain lion for me. I've also eaten plenty of alligator but I don't consider that strange.
You ate beaver and testicles on the same night...does that make you b(wait I better not finish that I might get a message from Fitz) that was close!
I'd have to say the weirdest thing I've eaten was squirrel, which I don't consider to be that weird because it was delicious. So maybe I'd have to say either raw oysters or raw crab. The oysters tasted like I was swallowing my own snot, not a huge fan but a lot of people in new england have an acquired taste for them.
Calf fries. Either that or a peach that Gramps sliced using the same Old Timer pocket knife that he cut the cattle with.
Mountain lion, turtle, mule You would never guess what taste the best Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
A toad. Well I was told it was a frog, and it wasn't. College friends laughed good as I was finishing
Seems kind of funny to me that people think squirrel is out of the ordinary. I guess I never thought of NOT eating it. Can't even imagine how many hundreds I've eaten.
Iv had squirrel, deer, bear, elk, wild hog, coon, turtle, groundhog, duck, gator, rattlesnake, beaver, rabbit, frog legs, bobcat backstraps, none of which I consider weird, and all that I will eat again. I'm sure I'm leaving out some other things that most would consider weird Team Red Sun Rising
I've eaten some unusual stuff: marmot, rattlesnake, roadrunner, calf fries (there used to be a calf fry every July 4 before the town rodeo), chipmunk, frog, turtle, armadillo, crawfish, freshwater mussels. I grew up eating deer, rabbit, squirrel, dove, quail, bass, crappie and catfish. Probably more than storebought meat. I have had pleasure of trying elk, moose, bear, grouse and a few other critters that are not native to around here. I've never eaten raccoon or possum. I have asked around quite a bit, and the consensus is that they aren't real good. Same with javelina and audad, never eaten them either (I've never killed a javi or audad, but know lots of folks who have). I'm going by second hand info on them. If you read some of the old field journals of trappers and mountain men from long ago, many claim that mountain lion is the favorite meat of many. I have only ever killed one, and it was before I learned that. I turned the ears in to the cattlemans association for a bounty and left the carcass. Next one, I will eat. Same with bobcat, I haven't killed one in years, because I don't feel I have a high number of them on my property, but one of these days, I do plan to put one on the grill. I don't hunt squirrels like I used to but back just a few years ago i could clean one in just over 60 seconds. Last one I did took a few minutes. This weekend is squirrel camp at a friends property. 15 drunk men and about 15 young boys all wackin squirrels. It's a blast for the men and the boys. I usually end up giving squirrel cleaning lessons.
Rattle snake and alligator. For those who have had elk how is it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I swallowed a small lizard whole on a drunken spring break bet in the 80's. Not proud of it, but I did it. (and it's a great story, but really needs to be told over beers at the bar). As far as stuff that I've actually sat down to eat? I'm half a hillbilly (Eastern KY)..so there's not much that's off the table. I don't think any of it's too weird, but some people do. I love squirrel. Duck, Goose, frog legs, obviously venison. My personal favorite on the oddball list?....Groundhog. My Mamaw used to make the best ground hog. We went to the range the other day....My son said, "When we got here, there was a groundhog in the target shed"...."Why didn't you tell me?" "Mom told me not too because she knew you'd shoot it in front of everybody".. (She was right)
