Yep, here in Northern VA the acorns are just starting to drop. It is coming....... Arrows coming your way Newbie as of 4pm today. GOOD luck!
So, Would it help if I got a whole big grocery bag of acorns from the park by my house and dumped them out a few yards from my stand? Baiting IS ALLOWED in MD
Private, about 20 mins from my house with a kid from school and his brother. They live on a farm with 110 acres in Howard County, MD and I am told they own one of the biggest strips of woods in that County. He said there were a lot of Doe but some Monster bucks as well, but he said we will only probably see does. i'm not going up into the stand with my friend, I'm sitting below the stand (Stands are hard for me to get in and out of). I'm told that the strip of woods where we are hunting is the best because it either ends at a corn field or at his Mom's pasture.
well some on my land lost their velvet and they are some what on the beans but mostly getting ready for the acorns
I hunt farms mainly, for Does and younger bucks, follow the food souce all year, just get on some acorns or Ag food source, or find a good creek crossing leading to either. For mature bucks (3 years and older) right now I'd get as close to bedding areas as possible as the older guys move less and less in daylight. Try and catch them getting up from beds heading for food sources just before dark. On all of my properties, I havent seen any of the mature bucks out feeding in daylight in probably 2 weeks now while glassing, or on trail cameras in the acorns in daylight. Same game every year. Antlers harden, tetosterone builds, older bucks become less tolerable of other bucks and much more cautious moving in daylight, they start to establish territory and get in survival mode until the rut.
They are in the, ready to take an arrow phase haha. Im in Delaware and most all the bucks are out of velvet and looking for the acorns that are dropping. Corn is starting to come down over here as well, so that should be good for me.
