I am needing to get something different - have one 10 X 50 which are to big physically to use for stand hunting. Picked up a used compact 10 X 25. Hard to find the target or hold them steady, and difficult to focus. Seems the higher the power, the lower the field of view. So what size are you guys using?
Anything under a 40mm objective lens is worthless if you ask me. A lot of glassing is done at first light and last light. Anything smaller is worthless and won’t gather enough light. I personally use 10x50 with a good harness. But if that is to much I would not go smaller than a 8x40 something.
I hunt in tight tight tight areas. No need for glassing. But when I rifle hunt I have steiners that are 8 x 42. Not as bulky as 50's. I like 'em.
I use 8x42 Vortex RazorHDs. I think they are the perfect size glass for stand hunting, not too big or too small and super clear in low light.
I use 10x42 for stand hunting and 12x50 for gun hunting, both vortex diamondbacks Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I use 10x42 Leica's. Have had the same pair for over 12 years. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I use to us 10x42s and they did the job. My pair now are 10x50, and they are great! I don't mind the size compared between the 2 sizes. But I won't be going back down in size, I feel it's a great size for whitetail
Thanks much guys. Will go at least a 40 mm objective lens. Looking at a pair of 7-21 X 40 Reverse Porro. I like the idea of variable since I hunt areas of close underbrush that branch out into open CRP fields.
I use Vortex Diamondback 10x42s that work pretty well out to about 150 yards. Last night I was out glassing a few fields with a friend, I got to use some Swarovski 10x42s and compare them to the Diamondback in low light and the Swarovskis blew the Diamondbacks away, but not enough for me to buy a pair. The furthest shot I have (even when rifle hunting) is about 80 yards, so I can't justify it.
I've been using 10x42 Vortex Vipers for years, and this year upgraded to the Razors. I've been extremely happy with them and feel like they're perfect for hunting whitetails here in the Midwest.
A few years ago I went with a quality monocular - Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x 42mm. I hunt the woods of northern I where 200 yards of view is far. It fits in a pocket or clip on my safety harness. It is easy to focus and the glass quality is surprisingly good for $200 ($350 msrp). I do have a nice pair of Zeiss binos. I seem to use them for everything except hunting. But I am sure that is what I will carry on my next AK trip.
10x42 vortex diamondbacks. For a cheap pair they work great. When I upgrade it will be for another pair of Vortex Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
