Hey guys. I've been hunting for 5 years and I've shot two deer but coyotes got to one before me and I didn't find the other. I'm super confident with my stand locations and scent control. But as far as finding a deer after I shoot it, not so much. Should I go for a doe or buck as a confidence booster? I've got some great 2.5-3.5 yr old bucks on my cam but I see a lot more does than bucks when I'm in the stand so keep that in mind.

I always like to start with a doe to get the nerves down but if a buck comes out first it wont stop my arrow from flying haha

Its not all about whether you shoot a buck or doe, It's about the experience. Shoot whatever makes you happy.
With that being said, if you want to hold out on a buck, you should commit to it. You may see a lot of does but if you let them pass then eventually there will be a buck following.
I personally however, like shooting a doe at the first of the season and get the itch to let an arrow fly out of my system.

If youve shot 2 deer and only retreived one id say if a nice buck comes in then shoot it. If you think you can do better and have alot of monsters and think you can get one then obviously wait and just shoot a doe. Do what makes you happy. If your like me youve got your mind made up what you wanna do but once you get in the stand all plans go out the window when you start seeing them and getting excited lol.

They will both die the same so either will build you confidence.

Where are you at in Minnesota?

I hate the feeling I get when I shoot a buck. I do not get buck fever or get whipped up when I see a deer coming into range. I let the arrow go watch the deer as long as possible then climb down and walk in and change out of the cammo. There is no celebration no texting etc. Then the track begins once I find the deer then I am happy, but until then I have worst case senerio going thru my head. If you ever need a hand I have a barn cat that has found my last 3 bucks before I did.

I'm in Eagle Bend. Close to the middle of Minnesota. I also hunt at my best friends grandmother's in Hewitt that's where the good bucks are at. Once in a while I see a good one on the cam in Eagle Bend but not often. I think the I'm just going to shoot the first mature deer that gives a good shot. Probably a doe but the quicker I get one down the sooner I get some venison.

Shoot what makes you happy... I've never killed a buck with my bow but still passed many small bucks/does last year. Ended up eating tag soup - Which I have no problem doing.

Shoot a doe first if you have a chance. It is fun and does build your confidence. But if a good buck walks in, Take Him!
