I checked my Bushnell Tophy Cam a couple days ago, and when I opened it there was water in it and the LCD screen wouldn't come on. So I brought it home, changed the batteries and the screen came on so I thought the water just damaged the batteries. And then the wire that runs from the battery to the camera started smoking and I could smell it burning. So obviously the water has damaged other parts as well. I contacted Bushnell and they told me to send it in so they can repair it, but I figure it might cost a lot and take awhile to get it back. So should I send it in and get it repaired or just buy a new one?
You didn't mention how old it is so If its still under warranty send it in, you have nothing to lose.
It's a little over a year old and has a 2 year limited warranty, but don't you have to register it to get the warranty?
Limited warranty would cover this without a doubt in my opinion. The camera is not supposed to get water in it, so that is not a mistake you made i.e. dropping it, setting it up wrong etc. It's a manufacturer glitch so they have to stand behind their product. Make sure you tell us if they don't then we'll stand behind a fellow bowhunter
I was asking about this same question a while back due to a buddies camera. His was 5 years old and he sent it in and they ended up sending him a new one with NO charges. I say send it in. Due to my buddies issue and the way it was solved I now own two of the Black flash bushnells! I love the video that they take and have yet to try the pictures.
Sorry for your loss! Next time this happens to anyone 1. Take out Batteries!!!!! 2. Put in Oven lowest setting on pot holder for 15-30 minutes. 3. Let cool down in Oven slowly... 4. Inspect again....OK...install batteries 5. Cross everything you own and can...Hopefully it works! Done this don't know how many times I've done with Phones!!! It works....main thing is removing Batts A.S.A.P. !!!! Many electronics go through a bake in period and pre-delivery test! It does work sometimes! Coffee
