I'm another go to your local seed store and make your own mixes. Saves you some money, and is generally better seed that hasn't been sitting on a shelf.

I planted Egyptian Wheat 2 years ago as a screen, and plan on doing so again. Held up pretty good, and the deer munched on the heads.

I will also add that my Ag supply (and Welter's) sell pre-inoculated seed, which, I believe boonerville was alluding to.

I have heard that from several people. I will be planting their beans and their switchgrass bedding mix.

We just bought a new place with a little acreage on it. We have lots of work to do but I'm also looking at that bedding mix to try in a few places. Keep me posted. What state are you in?

Hopefully this year with the crop fields around us we can see what the beans will do when they get a good chance to mature.

If you go with a Buck on Bag premix, make sure you look at the label as many folks have mentioned. Not only for filler and undesirable types of plants (rye grass) but for the type of desired plant. For instance, Whitetail Institute Imperial Clover is often considered on of the best clover mixes to get but if you are frost seeding, you lose the annual Berseem clover because it doesn't frost seed and you paid for seed that was wasted. Also, some seeds don't do well in certain conditions (soil type, moisture level, harsh summers) while others do so ideally you want to research the seeds in the mix to see if it is the right fit for your area. Companies that produce the mixes often mix in a lot different seeds so that something will grow regardless of conditions but that can potentially lead you to paying for seed that is doomed before it hits the dirt.

Making your own mixes from the local ag store is a much more inexpensive option and allows you to tailor your seed mix to your specific need. The ag store clover may not 100% tailored to deer but if it is the only clover around, the deer will eat it up.

Do you plant on frost seeding the clover or fall planting it?

This is only my second attempt at a food plot, but this will be a bigger one...Last year I put out a strip of Whitetail Institute Purple Top Turnips, and the Deer absolutely destroyed it....I thought someone had come in and plowed the plot up...No Joke...they wore it out.....
If you look at the pics that I posted early in the thread you'll see the place Im going to plot and what I will be doing...Going to have a clover edge around the place and some plot strips up on the hill, with some corn to created cover/lanes....
Will be starting early march with the clover, and spring strips soon after....then fall switch over to fall strips on top of hill....
    Thanks
    Creeks!

Exactly. My mix of oats, wheat, rye, radish, and red clover cost me a fraction of a name brand mix, and there are deer in it nightly right now eating the rye to the ground.

If you really want a pre-made mix, I would look to our own pastorandrew and his mixes.

I'm sure he could point you in the right direction if you send him a PM. I believe he has a website, bit I could be mistaken.
