So I was watching youtube videos and I came across some videos of Cameron Hanes. This guy pradtices at 160-180 yards. Of course no one would shoot an animal at this range but got me thunking i should be practicing at longer distances, and im wondering what distances do you guys practice at? Heres the video. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6f-j17JD85I
I've only shot out to 60 yards. I might step it out to 70 here in the future. Everyone that I've talked to the bowhunts mule deer say longer shots are more common . I'm determined to get close though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Typically out to 60 where my last pin is set. I do get together with some friends one weekend a year and we have a 100 yd competition. Can't imagine shooting out to 180 though! Heck, most of the people I know don't even practice their rifles over 100 yds.
Well thats why I wanna try and step back a bit aswell, cause it seems to make those close 20 yard shots chip shots!
i shoot a lot at 20 for spots. for 3d and hunting purposes, i practice out to 60-80 so i can be confident at 60 (my hunting mer)
The way I see it if my pin/pins will be able to be held on target ill go out to that distance. Typically out to 70. If i have to hold way over the target and guess i dont really see the point! Distance practice is very good practice. It really helps when you come back in at shorter distances!
I practice at 20 , 30 , 40 , 50 and 60 yards i usually shoot the same amount of arrows and rounds at each yardage for hunting and 3d i wont shoot a deer past 60.
Just for fun, and because it could. I would fling a couple arrows at 100 plus with my tommy Hogg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I shoot from 20-70. Today I shot at 60 and 70. The last few days I've been shooting at 20 mostly. I'll spend the next few days shooting at 60-70 and when I go back to 20 its ridiculously easy. For me, shooting at long range makes me really concentrate on my form and makes me a better shooter at close range.
What about angles anyone shoot from somewhat steep up and down angles? And it is farther shooting up than shooting down correct?
I do 3d that's out to about 55, target and at my glendel anywhere from 15 to 70, and now I've used my climber on a tree in the yard or power pole some and off my house roof for some angle practice. Pretty much trying for some of everything to keep flexible for shots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yesterday I practiced elevated 18 feet, 12 yards. I practice out to 55 yards max. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I practice from 20-60 most of the time. Then about once every couple weeks I practice from 60-85. I think practicing from long distances helps with keeping your bow steady because the slightest movement will throw your arrow off by a couple of feet.
My HHA goes up to 80 yards so I practice out to 80 yards. I like to start with a few warm ups from 40-50 then I move back to whatever distance I want to shoot from 60,70, or 80. I always end my practice with some 30 yard shots because that seems to be my most common yardage when I encounter deer. After shooting 70 or 80 yards these 30 yards shots are nothing! Also if you have any bad habits with form a 30-40 yard shot may not show it but you back out to 70 and you will soon figure out if your doing something wrong.
