I "prefer" shots from 15 to 20 yards...but don't often get to put them where I want them. I killed a buck at 41 last year and another this year at 41. Also killed three does this year at 32, 32 and 20. One out of five in my "zone" is about what I average.

I feel more confident at 20, but my bow arm feels better at 40 because of the angle of elevation, at least when shooting on the ground.

I practice from 10-60 yds. I am confident out to 40yds. My average is around 15-20yds. I need to stretch my practice out to 70yds, so I can go elk hunting in the next few years.

This depends on whether I'm in a treestand or on the ground. Stocking in a cornfield my closest shot was about 2 yards. I love the rush even on a doe at that distance. In a tree, because of the shot angle, I prefer about 7 yards to 20 yards.

Well, my 1st ever bow kill was ranged at 44 yards and I heart shot the buck. I practice back to 77 yrds (max I can do at my house). That being said I like to think that I have gotten better as a hunter and can get the distance closer than my first shot and typically all my stands are set up for a 20 - 25 yard shot and in the timber that we hunt that is about all you can do anyway. Most of my kills are 20 yards +- a couple of yards and I feel very confident at that range. If I have to shoot to 40 I don't have an issue with that. When we went elk hunting a few years back I really put the time into longer shots and felt very good out to 60 yards.

40 yards and under works for whitetails.

After almost 40 years of bowhunting and being around other bowhunters, I've come to the conclusion that 30 yards or so should be the limit for whitetails, regardless of how great a shot you are. I've shot longer under perfect circumstances, but wouldn't anymore. I've never hunted other animals, so maybe their reaction time is slower allowing longer shots, but in my experience 30yds should be absolute max for whitetails.

20-40 yards for me. Woods are so thick here in Eastern NC you don't get too many shots farther than that.

I would never guessed that so many people shoot deer at 40 yards comfortably. I just feel like there are too many variables at that distance. I have shot 2 over 40, but they were heads down feeding in beans and had absolutely no idea.

I personally prefer 15 to 25 or so.

51 years bow hunting, 30 yards and under in wooded country, too many twigs etc that seem to reach out and grab arrows ! I love bow hunting because its called hunting, not shooting ! The challenge to get up close and personal is the game, not the shooting
