I did take a time out from serious hunting for 9 years to coach football and be president of the local youth football organization. My retirement gift to me was a new bow.
I've always loved money. and I've given up a hell of a lot of it for hunting. Other than that, nothing really. Where I like to fish, is only about 5 minute drive from the hunting land, so when I go up north, I can fish in the morning, go work the land a little in the afternoon, and head back to the lake for the evening.
I hunt until I get my buck... I don't pick up a Rifle at all. I regret it sometimes because I could've taken one the last couple years. Down here In Texas, duck hunting usually gets good around December and January but hell, I haven't got my buck yet the last couple seasons so duck hunting has been on the backburner
It is called hunting not shooting. I could have shot other bucks but I passed hardly call that a failure. Lots of guys would have shot the smaller bucks and said those are big for my area or some other rationalization instead I took a doe and left my buck tag unfilled.
I gave up fall sports I used to run for my school but after I really got into bow hunting I dropped running for my school.
I gave up fast cars/trucks in my early 20's mostly because I couldn't afford that and hunting both. When my nice vehicles were parked in storage all winter and I was making payments on them and driving a $100 beater car to go hunting I realized something was wrong. So I sold my toys, bought my first 4x4 truck and some new gear and never looked back. Some day I'd like to get into it again, but it won't be until my kids are grown which is a long time from now. I feel like I'm stuck in a diaper changing hell that's never going to end.
I no longer turkey hunt in the spring, I also gave up fly locally in the spring and summer. I will still travel to fish steelhead and other amphidromous fish and western blue ribbon steams however it now more infrequently. To be fair I take the better part of 8 weeks bowhunting each fall. So I am not sure giving up is the correct way of putting it.
Hmmm..... I overheard hunters talking in Bass pro saying the same thing, about all the bucks they pass on, you let them grow to be big ones. You guys must watch the same hunting show on TV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No I am not going to shoot a buck smaller than my current biggest, not a hard concept to grasp has nothing to do with TV. I do know that if you shoot smaller bucks you will never shoot bigger bucks.
