Hey guys, new subscriber...I've already harvested my deer this year, and am running low on arrows. I shoot a Mathews Z7 (the original), 28.5" DL @ 70 lbs. Currently I shoot Carbon Express Mayhem Hunter 350's. I See that Carbon express no longer carries that exact arrow, should I go with their Mayhem DS 350 (which is the same 9.8 gpi), go with a different Carbon Express arrow, or go with a different brand all together? If I decide to make a switch to a different arrow, now would be the time obviously. I know some people say that Carbon Express is over-rated and over-priced, but I myself have never had any problems with them. Thanks!
This year I switched to BlackEagle Rampage and love them. With their weighted outsert I have an excellent FOC with a micro diameter arrow at 430 grains. They hit hard and are much more durable than the CX red/blue I shot last year. They fly awesome as well. I had penetration problems last year and the arrows wanted to deflect easily in the animal. These rampages plow right through. I also have a 28.5” draw and a 70# bow that I am shooting at 64# this year as I tweaked my shoulder this summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t shoot carbon express so I don’t have any suggestions for a switch. However, i would prolly go with the arrow with the same gpi and spine because this would require less tweaking of your setup whenever you start shooting again.
I shoot the maxima reds out of my main hunting bow. But I think I’m gonna try the new maxima red sd pretty soon. The reds have been by far the best shooting arrow if shot. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The Carbon Express Maxima Red has been outstanding for me. I shot Easton Bloodlines before and 4 out of 5 broke either on impact, not shoulder either, or shortly after hitting the deer. I switched to the Maxima and have not broke an arrow since. I have also notice increased penetration with this arrow.
I shoot Easton Axxis and like them. Will be trying Victory RIP Elites next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I look for the least GPI so that as i build the arrow to the target weight i end up with the maximum FOC I shoot Easton HEXX 330 spine at 420 gr total weight
My favorite arrows are the VAP Elites, GT Pierce or the Carbon Express Blue Streak RZ's... Love them all, fly great, penetrate amazing...
I use Easton Bloodlines. They’re a mid grade arrow but I really like em. I had intentions on upgrading but I have no reason to. They really do fly great Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Does anyone know of a length diagram that I should be cutting my new arrows to? The current length flies good, but should I change them? Didn't know if there was a formula or chart that includes weight of arrow, DL, draw weight, etc.
Found this. http://www.huntersfriend.com/carbon-arrow-basics-measurement-standards-research-guide.html Basically says 1 inch past your rest at full draw is minimum and a good guideline. Anything less can be a safety issue. Hope that helps.
Used Carbon Express Maxima Blues last year. Shoot a lot and the arrows didn’t hold up to constant shooting. Switched to Gold Tip Pierce Platinum this year. Bit more expensive but hold up better under wear and tear...IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hunted with CE Maxima hunters this season, I was very pleased with them. Ive started shooting Bloodsport Punishers since then. I fell for the blood ring gimmick, but I think they shoot better with my set up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
I have shot both Carbon Express Hunters and Easton Axis. I like the way the Easton arrows fly better. However, I found the Carbon Express to be more durable. The Axis arrows tended to splinter more easy upon impact with a deer. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I used to shoot the exact same arrow the carbon express mayhem hunters. Shoot really well I think the sd’s are pretty much the same arrow. I switched back to the gold tip xt hunters just because I like the options for adding weight to the inserts. And gold tip offers a bunch of different types of inserts. I haven’t tried any the micro Diameter arrows just because I feel I have no need for them I don’t shoot long distance and I normally don’t hunt when there are Gail force winds. Penetration has never been a issue for me either I like 450 gain arrow 300 spine seem to hit hard and perform vary well out of my set up. Just my 2 cents
My experience has been all of these manufacturers make great arrows. Carbon express exellent but get to be pricey. I felt that I wanted to go back and try Easton Axis for (smaller diameter) and cause of price. After shooting them roughly 7 months "They looked like Hell"... Decal on sides are all worn off and scratched, But they still fly great. I was shooting Victory Vforce 245. for 2 yrs. As I looked at them and compared cosmetic aspect. Victory still looked new and Easton Axis looked like they were in Vietnam Nam. So needless to say I'm going back to Victory but mabey R.I.P.s I know they will last.
