the huge draw around here is the Dunes Nat. Park , the State park and the big puddle (Lake Michigan, I live about 4 miles from it) ... deer hunting isnt bad, EHD took its toll in many places this past year however. .. there are always some big typicals and a good non-typical or two that get taken every year .. The big lake has Steelhead, Chinook, Coho, Lake Trout, Walleye, Smallmouth and Perch.. the 3 local streams all have the trout/salmon runs.. best time of the year for Steelhead is right around the corner ..... just east of me a few of the bigger lakes have sustainable populations of large Muskies .. I try to go to the dams by Monticello for walleye and white bass/hybrids in the spring .. there are several Fish and Wildlife areas for various hunting/waterfowl/small/upland game, but they get YUUUGE pressure ... the largest is around 12,000 acres which include TNC property open to hunting, plus hundreds of acres of preserve for a herd of prairie Buffalo to roam) ... also no federal lands up north for hunting however, those are around Indy or south of ... private lands are hard to get onto, most are already hunted/leased or family hunted or an absolutely NO HUNTING, thus the pressure on the F&W areas, and of course all the damn development is wiping out fields/woods/habitat at an alarming rate (I hate developers, I really do ) ... Chitcago is moving to Hammond, Whiting, and Gary, and all the trash is then moving east of that towards me, thus the destruction of wildlife habitat and farms ...

Central PA, highly regarded as one of the safest places to live and raise a family. Nothing crazy ever happens here. lol. Tons of mountains and wilderness areas to get lost in hunting and fishing. Winters can get rough though.
