Ok so we now have what we could do to become better. So what do you think you currently do that makes you a successful hunter? Time to brag about your skills.

I think for me it is simply the effort I put in (as probably most everyone here). I am 100% dedicated to do whatever it takes to put me in the position to kill a mature buck. Simply put.... I work harder and put more time in than most people around my hunting commuinity. Looking for new land, eternal scouting, trail cams, stand locations, shed hunting, practice shooting, entry/exit routes, understanding behavior, hunting the wind, scent control, knowing my land, knowing where to be for the phases of the rut, looking for sign and knowing (or thinking about why it's there) simply thinking and plotting, adjusting gameplan as needed, etc..... I'm a very self motivated and driven person. I put 100% into anything I do and want nothing but the best I can possibly do. That is what I believe to be my biggest attribute to make me successful in hunting.

    Relentless....

There isn't a day I do not do something to pursue or feed my whitetail addiction.

(As corny as that may sound) :deer:

Ability to block out alot of the "tips" I read on the internet and in magazines. For each good paragraph of hunting info there is about a book of junk or info that doesn't apply at all.

Patience, It's needed more then ever hunting with a traditional bow. I also have open ears, I'm the farthest thing from a "know It all" hunter. I like talking hunting with people, you just never know when you can pick up a good tip. Having open ears has made me a better hunter.

owning/leasing phenomenal land and managing that area well... I think patience, while being a virtue, is also just a given when hunting... having "extra" patience I don't believe is going to make you any more successful if you are hunting crappy land or not managing your land well enough to keep and grow monster bucks...

if I had to nail it down to a single word, I'd say DILIGENCE instead of patience...

    Pure determination.
I also have an acute "2nd" sense. That feeling when you can't hear it, you can't see it, but you know there's a deer coming your way so you get ready.
Plus the fact that I am extremely self reliant.

I am a one girl bow hunting machine!! (my husband doesn't hunt - go figure)

I hunt where the is a lot of deer & I generally don't blow a shot when I get the chance.
Other than that I don't do anything that special, in my mind.

Ability to adapt to changing environments. I hunt a large military base and at any given time certain areas close down with no warning. Sometimes I get up extremey early to get a pass to hunt an area, but find out that area is closed and so is another back up area. That forces you to be able to look at a map and adapt.

In the begining I believe it was pure determination. Now I believe it is my better understanding of deer.
In other words I'm hunting smarter instead of harder now.

Something along these lines...to the point where it annoys even my close hunting friends to here me babble about what I bought, did, or plan to do.

Although, I'm not sure I can be classified as successful.:deer:

    1. Application. Applying what I've learned from each invaluable experience in the woods regardless of whether it was positive or negative.

    2. Complete confidence that at full draw with pin settled, my arrow will find it's mark.
