What makes lighted nocks so expensive?

Now people are making the points I was hoping all alone for. I’m not making it out to be anything and really it doesn’t matter than much to me. Just asking questions I’m curious about. Precisely what a forum is for.

Dan, I don't know what the profit margins are obviously. As I stated, I perceive the lighted nocks to be a higher profit margin % wise based on what they consist of verses what they are selling them for. And I could easily be wrong.

Although Vito and Justin are contradicting each other. Are they having no trouble selling lighted nocks (Vito) or is less than 10% of hunters using them and there is a low demand (Justin)? Which is it?

    Good points all.

These two statements don't necessarily have to contradict each other.

Let's assume the world wide market for widgets is 1 million units. Most widgets sell for around $50 each and there's a dozen companies making them. A new company comes into the market with a "Widget Plus" that has twice the widgetry of the standard models. But their product sells for $200 each. The demand may not be very high for the product because many people are happy with their $50 widgets. However, there will be some people who want it. Twice the Widgetry you say? Give me one!

Company X has anticipated the low demand for their high-price product and decided they're only going to make 50,000 of these Widget Pluses each year. They sell out of them in 6 months. In this case you have a product that was produced in low quanties with a higher price that only 5% of the market is using, yet they're sold out everywhere you go.

Now the consumer goes to the local Widget Shop and sees they're out of Widget Pluses. Well then this thing must be awesome! He asks the clerk when more are coming in and he says not until the Fall. Demand was so high that they sold out in just six months! Consumer is the further intrigued and signs up to be notified when the new Widget Plus comes in stock, and he now has to have one.

Now Vito and I are kicking back in our high-rise office, smoking cigars and chatting about how awesome we are for coming up with our Widget Plus idea. Stupid consumers. You would've all been happy with your standard Widgets!

Justin has a much better idea on how many people are actually using/buying lighted knocks, obviously. So it sounds like there is a sense of false demand. I once received a 3 pack as a christmas present. 2 of the 3 didn't work. I visited two Gander Mountains locally, as this is where they were purchased from, and they were always out of stock. This went on for months. As a result, I started paying attention to how other suppliers were doing. Same deal, they can't keep them in stock. They get some in, and they are gone in a week.

Hey Justin, I need a light.

    And btw,

For sale: 2 Lumenoks that don't work. Approximately 4-5 years old. Make me an offer.

There is NOT a 50% markup on bows... not even close.

Wow! $13.00. I must have gotten a really good deal on mine. My pro shop only chaged me $10 and installed it free.

3 out of 4 in this thread alone isn't bad Vito! But you should really strive for perfection and complete the cycle. :D

On a positive note... your thread kicked my butt in gear and I've started building a few more of these now for me and a buddy I'm getting started in bowhunting this year so we'll be ready to go for opening day.
