My son in law and I were shooting our bows and I saw this thing struggling in the cool air.

We dispatched it without doing too much damage.

I don’t recognize this variety and I grew up in these parts.

    Any ideas out there? Adjustments.jpg

I've been doing some more homework. I'm pretty sure it's a European Hornet. Another invasive species but maybe not as dangerous.

Ive been nailed by the regulars before while squirrel hunting, they F'N hurt !!....

Yep, those yellow jackets ain't no joke!! I've noticed that the ones in ground nests are extra aggressive bastards!! The only bee that hurts more is the white (some say bald) faced hornet, they'll light you up real good, and they'll stop at nothing to get to you. They hurt so bad you won't forget it!! lol

I got hammered by the bald faced back in September. Was out trimming trees with a pole saw and cut a branch that had their nest in it. Didn’t know it was there and they let me know it. Possibly the worst pain I have felt.
Ever seen a fat guy with a pole saw run faster than Usain Bolt. Yeah me neither.

LC why don’t you bring him in your camper and let him warm up a little??

And you only find the ground bees 2 seconds before you get stung.

Anytime I have run into a ground bee nest I have been stung multiple times, never just once. They are aggressive SOB's.

When the BWCA had the big blowdown I spent many a month up there cutting ignition line and containment line thru the prescribed burn units. We would go in as a short crew and leap frog thru the lines needed. It was always funny when a guy running a saw got into a nest, it was just comic to watch a guy just suddenly drop and run and jump and curse. Yep I got my turn a couple times.

It is funny to watch somebody being chased, arms flailing franticly, spewing words they don't use real often. lol
