I wish people would educate themselves a little more on snakes and maybe we wouldn't have so many snakes being killed every year for no reason at all. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of fear people have over snakes....

My lawn mower has killed a ton of those, I hate snakes! I realize they can't hurt me and I don't care , I still hate em. I can set out poison for the rodents, I don't need the snakes. lol

This thread amazes me, really bragging about killing garter snakes. You people hunt, own weapons yet brag about kill harm less snakes. Come on.
I'm guessing your man cards are wrapped in your big girl panties on the bottom of your murse's.

Stay away from those front door night lights as there are some really big moths this time of year.

Well, since there are quite a few who adhere to the narrow-minded, short sighted "kill 'em all" approach to snakes (and other animals as well), all I can really do is shake my head, move on and try to do what I know is right.

Personally I think it's sad that despite all of our advances we still haven't made it past the indescriminate killing of a species just because we don't like them, we're afraid of them or we just don't understand them.

Amen..... I think alot of peoples pet dogs are more scary than snakes.. but that doesn't give me the right to kill the dog because I am affraid of it!

Harmless Garter Snake. Me, I hate snakes. IF it's poisonous, which we don't have here, but had lots of them in Georgia.... it's dead if I see it. I know... they do good and all that. I don't care.... I'm killing that sucker if I have to destroy my Dodge Pickup to do it.

Look...I wasn't sure what kind of snake it was until I killed it. I'm not gonna run in my house and jump online to find out what it is when I have children that play in the yard daily. I didn't kill it because I don't like snakes or that I was scared. I did it for safety reasons.

Heres a site that you might want to add to your bookmarks. If your neighbors fence breaks and you don't have a lot of time, remember safety first.
Dog attacks happen more frequent than you might imagine.

I believe that was a classic Bawanajim sarcasm. I've been gone a while, so I could be wrong. Jim could have developed a warm, kind-hearted, caring online persona whose heart is full of nothing but good intentions for his fellow man.........

    Nah, it was a sarcasm.:D:D

Gabe, I don't believe anyone blames you for what you did. Obviously you didn't know what kind of snake it was (as evidenced by your post) and you were concerned about your children's safety. I can appreciate that. My comments weren't directed at you in any way.

The garter snake is one of the most readily identifiable harmless snakes around. Found everywhere from Alaska to Central America. Too bad.

Its just rather shocking that a person can grow to a full grown man and not know what that snake was. Unless you lived overseas or something. Which you may have. I know no question is a stupid question, just rather shocking. I would put it on par with me coming on here wondering if a preying mantis is going to kill me or not.
