Hey guys I'm new here and I got a quick question for you. I'm wanting to start bow hunting but don't know what kind of bow to get. If you all could give me your input that would be great. One more thang I don't want to pay a crap load for one. I'm thanking around $500-700 Thanks... Randall
It's all about preference. All depends on what feels "right" to you. I personally have always shot Hoyt (Started with a Reflex made by Hoyt) Bows but you may shoot one and not like it. Bowtech makes a couple good starter bows. A couple of my friends bought the Bow Tech Tom Kat last year and they love them (quiet, accurate, adjustable draw and forgiving) They also make Diamond bows which will be cheaper and may be a good start. I do recommend going to a local Bow shop and shooting a couple to see which one feels better to you. There are lots of Variables that will influence your decision. Just be sure you are talking to someone that knows bows. I have had better luck with local shops Rather than large sporting goods chains. A lot of times the larger places will stick someone that doesn't know anything in the bow area and what the tell you is just hear say. I know a few people that shoot Bear bows and they seem to like them. You will probably be able to get one of them for under $700. Hope this helps at least a little.
Randall, welcome to bh.com Are you looking to spend $500 to $700 complete bow or naked? Also are you looking at compounds? As far as good and priced right compounds go I would take a look at Mission Bows, They are made by matthews but don't have all the bells and whistles like the Matthews do. The X3 msrp is around $379 naked or theres the eliminator II that is 499.00. also look around holidays are coming and bps puts out some great deals on bow packages.
Best thing you can do is go to a pro shop and shoot as many as you can. You'll get a feel for the one that's right. If the price isn't right, check Ebay......I've gotten a couple of bargains there. Nobody can tell you which bow you should buy. You have to shoot them to know.
Thanks for the help guys!!! I shot my buddies Hoyt today when we went huntin and I really liked that bow. I'm gonna do what yall say and go to the bow shop tomorrow and shoot them all and see what fells the best. I will post tomorrow what bow I get. :D
Once you get measured up to see what fits and figure out what you like try looking for a used one in the classifieds here and on the other sites. There's some great deals to be had this time of year on the 09's as the '10 models come out and upgrade fever hits.
Well guys I got a Hoyt SuperHawk bone collector and the Hoyt 3 package. Do yall thank it's a good bow??
Heck yes it's a good bow....especially if it felt good when you shot it. I shoot a Hoyt Alphamax and I love it. I tried a number of bows before I decided on it. I think the Superhawk has many of the same features as the Alphamax. Good choice.....enjoy it!!
aww man just what we need another hoyt shooter shoulda got a bowtech lol j/k sounds like a very nice bow oh and WELCOME TO YOUR NEW ADDICTION!!!!!!!!
I'd really recommend a Mission bow because it's the same quality of an $800 Mathews but hundreds less than that. And they're incredibly adjustable to fit any shooter
Absolutely! Great bows to start with on this site and a few others. My current bow is from another forum member. Actually, not sure if he made the transition to this site. Anyways, they're great because you can find virtually new bows that were taken care of, but sell at the used price. If it's not in the best shape you can do what I did and learn more about bows as you get into fixing them. I suggest you go to your local retail archery shop, have them fit you for one, then buy one from this site or another online site (I won't publicly name them).
someone needs to change your user title to "mission sales rep" i actually got to shoot one the other day, not too bad
Congratulations on your purchase of a fine hunting machine. I hope you kill one on your first time out!!
Hi, According to me,you should go with the better luck with local shops Rather than large sporting goods chains. A lot of times the larger places will stick someone that doesn't know anything in the bow area and what the tell you is just hear say.
