I'm talkin' about knives here... what brand, how big or how many do you take to the woods? For deer I generally carry one knife, my Cutco serrated fixed blade. Sometimes I'll carry a Gerber Gator fixed blade with a gut hook. I also have a Knives of Alaska set that I really like as well.
i often carry my old army kay-bar from my service days in the backpack... mostly though I pack a simple 4.5" buck folder in the woods in my coat pocket... once i step out of my gear I have a kershaw rainbow leek clipped in my back pocket
Buck vangaurd proline 4 inch fixed blade, its really nice but im looking to get something with a gut hook.
I have the Outpack, made by Outdoor Edge. It's a set of several knives, and includes a hatchet and some other stuff. But part of this entire set is what they call the Kodi Pack. It's a caping knife and a skinner/gut hook knife. They are in a seperate sheath together and fits nicely in my pack.
Griz Pack by Outdoor Edge, one of the best presents my wife gave me. The knife is super sharp and easy to sharpen. The saw cuts through anything I need it to and has yet to get dull on me
I have a buck 102 that I got for christmas last year and I like that one a lot. I would like to one day have a Randall Knife. Their shop is about 45 min from my house but it still takes 5 years to get the knife. Quality stuff right there.
Is that the alpha wolf/cub bear set? I just got that a couple of months ago. Beautiful knives. Can't wait to use them. My main knife is a spyderco "bill moran" drop point. But it may take a back seat to the combo this year.
I really like my BuckLite hunter w/ finger grooves, carried that in my backpack for years going back and forth to work... it was a gift from my dad about 20yrs ago... he gave it to me after I bought him a Buck Selector knife... pretty cool though, his has a standard blade like the hunter only you can remove it easily (takes about 2 seconds) and swap on a gutting blade that has a rounded/blunt tip and a serrated hilt, not a hook style though
I've been using the swing blade by outdoor edge. It works great and keeps it edge for at least 3 deer before resharpening. deerman
I have been carrying a Buck 110, thats changing. The knife I will be carrying is in the mail and on its way to me as of this morning! Damascus blades are very good at staying sharp which is why I spent a bit more on this one, it a neck knife, I'll be having another one made by the same guy before the season, most likely a Skinner.
My dad got me a Gerber Freeman with a guthook that is my primary knife now. http://www.gerberstore.com/index.php?xpage=itempage&xid=564
I have a few, but primarily carry a gerber folder with a 4" blade that is in a pouch with a seperate gut hook. I also carry a 4" Rapala trout size filet knife.......that's my "cornhole" knife. :D
