What kind of background do you have in Athletics I am curious as to what kind of athletes we have on this site, Highschool? College? and any Professional athletes? List the sports you've competed in and experience.. should be interesting.
Played baseball religiously up to my 9th grade year in high school. Left the team that year due to a conflict with the coach. Not too many days I don't regret that. Ran track and field 10th and 11th as well as cross country. I'll play just about any sport, though. I played my first 9 hole round of golf this fall. With a very loose emphasis on "play.":D
Played hockey in high school. Then played on a amature team in AZ untill I got deployed. Good God that was over 20 yrs ago.
Wrestled from age of 5 to college (Div I), had to quit after first year. Grades sucked. dabbled in soccer and Judo but only for a couple years.
Played football my first two years. Raced BMX throughout high school at the national level and gave up football because we traveled out of town two or three weekends a month. I was also the beer shotgunning champion my junior and senior year.
played baseball and football since i was 5 or 6ish. played both through high school. went to play baseball at small D3 school and ended up all conference for 2 of those years 4 years. could have played football at a few schools but baseball is my love. might have had the chance to play at a few small d1 schools but just couldnt get those test scores high enough... its a good thing i would have failed out of a bigger school. did a little shotput for a few years and wrestled until i realized i was surrounded by studs and state champs that all went on to all big D1 schools.
Didn't go to high school so that kind of limited any college opportunities. I did do light infantry (airborne) for 6 years and that was very athletic LOL. Then there was the competitive powerlifting for 10 years. At one time I had 1 national and 3 state records. The best compliment I got during that time was when a guy was talking selling steroids to the guy next to me and said, "You're doing great, you don't need 'em.". He was correct.
Played baseball from the time I was 7 all the way up through High School. I started playing American Legion ball when I was 14. (most start at 16, but I was invited by the coach. They didn't even have a uniform that fit me.lol) From the ages of 14-16 I played High School ball, Summer Babe Ruth league, babe ruth all-star team, and Legion ball. I usually only had one night off a week with double headers on the weekends. When I turned 19 I played one year of a traveling pro-am wooden bat league.
That's awesome, Bruce. I played everything in HS. Won 2 state Babe Ruth (16-18) Championships, but never did anything, nationally. Played 1 yr D1, 3 yrs NAIA College Baseball. (1 HS homerun.....30 in college.....lol) Low BA of .295...high of .33???. Played golf maybe 10 times, to this point in my life (college graduate). Had a college buddy who played on the team....and he'd entered the PGA Apprentice program. Sounded like fun. I worked on my game, got a job as an assistant (glorified cart-boy at this club); continued to work on my game; passed my playing ability test; went to the bus. schools; 2 upwards moves, later...I was elected to membership of the PGA of America in Aug. 1994. Lowest USGA index was +2.6. Didn't play softball for years, but picked it up around 1996. Moved to Charleston, in 1999 and ended up on a national championship team (ASA-"C" Class). Picked up the golf club for the 1st time in 7yrs, in 2003. Practiced a while, and got back to scratch. I applied for my amateur status (and let me tell you....with a professional record like mine....they don't make you wait long!....lol); qualified second in my sectional qualifier (state mid-am). In the event...I made the 2-day cut.....and finished dead-middle of the field. I played pretty damned good. I realized I wasn't willing to spend the time it would take to get "that good" (or...maybe I saw I never was gonna be), so I stopped playing golf, again. I'll play it again, some day. Hunting is NOT a sport.....lol.
Good stuff guys, thanks for sharing .. Interesting, keep it coming. Bruce, very cool, I powerlifted in college, didnt hold and state or national records though! Good for U ... and yeah roids were a bad bad deal and real prevelant back in the day .. Jeff did you ever run into LCSC (one of my good buds played third base for them) in the NAIA world series?
I played soccer (goalie) until I started high school. I gave that up to play basketball and more importantly, baseball. I LOVE baseball. I played basketball up to my junior year and baseball till I graduated. My best baseball game, I went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a double. It was awesome. My only multiple home run game. I hit 15 total. Which isn't too bad considering I really didn't play at all the first 2 years. I was a catcher, and my knees are now paying the price. I've already had surgery on one and I fear the other will need it at some point.
LOL....lunger....NO!.... My HS field didn't have a fence. In fact, I only played on 2 fields in HS that did. Shed....we never made it out of the districts in NAIA. Played in the regionals (D1), my only year there. Funny thing was, we went 16-2 in conf. play......................and finished 2nd!
Played baseball through 9th grade, football all 4 years, swam all 4 years, ran track junior and senior years and 1 year in college. Tried rodeo but after 2 yrs I realized thet it was tough to make a living at it.
Never played any High School Sports, always had a job and no spare time. Did lots of non-school sports. Local hockey leagues, soccer, basketball, and softball. Did the best in volleyball, I was a middle hitter in the USVBA, Mens AA level for a few years traveling all over the midwest and winning quite a few tournements. My knees and right hip are now telling me I had way too many ups and downs on the hardwood floors. I'm sure replacement surgery is in my future when I can't make it up and down the hills on my property anymore.
Played hockey, baseball, football, track through high school and also held a job working at a local dairy farm every chance I was free. I also took Taekwondo lessons for 6 years starting at 9 years old and finished at the age of 15. I was 2 weeks away from trying out for my black belt when the class got cut due to low funds so I finished with a brown belt. I know for a fact I would've got that black belt too. I was pretty upset about It at the time and It still bites me yet today!!
Played baseball my Freshman and Sophomore year of high school. Was one of the Top 50 in the state as a Sophomore and never played another game after my 10th grade year. Also, played baseball year round from about the time I was 11 to 16 in AAU, Fall Ball, traveling teams, etc. Played basketball my entire life. Accomplished very little in actual high school games. Played for 5 or 6 different AAU/YBOA teams one of which every player went on to play D1 ball. Played against the likes of OJ Mayo, Kevin Durant, Ty Lawson, and several other players who went on, or who still contribute to major D1 programs. When I was 14 we were playing the Memphis Pump n' Run and my teammates talked me into jumping the opening tip and I won the tip over Herb Pope, the then 31st ranked played in the country and he now plays at Seton Hall. Giving up 9 inches, I'm not sure he actually tried, but no one will take that from me :D
Played basketball, baseball, and ran cross country in high school. Ended up quitting basketball because of the mandatory summer camps that interferred with legion ball. Played baseball all through my childhood, and got on traveling team when I was 11, and played on some pretty good teams, with some pretty good players. Played CF, usually batting leadoff until my junior year. That summer our Legion schedule was pretty intense. Like 2_lunger explained it was often games nearly every night, and then 3-4 hour practices when we didn't have games. I played every inning of every game that summer, and I was just kind of burnout, and saw myself not giving it my all anymore, so I quit after that and got a job. It was the best thing I ever did for myself during high school. Still love to watch it, but I don't think I have even thrown a ball since then.
