depends on what I'm getting on cam in specific areas. sometimes I stick w/ the bow if those spots still stay "hot". if things shut down I hit the mountains and try to get one in the snow.
When I first bought a bow it was with the intention of giving myself extra time in the woods before firearms season started...then I shot my first deer with a bow and that experience led me to the easy decision of using only a bow.
the deer camp tradition is very important to me , and was a big part of my love for hunting. I now have a 5 yr old so we will continue the tradition for hopefully many more seasons to come .. but when its time to get in the woods and hunt it is with bow in hand.
I'm gonna hold unto my bow during gun season. I might not even go out that weekend just because everyone else will be. But if the brothers wanna do a drive or two I will most likely join them with the twenty gauge.
I only pick up a gun when I have too. I.E. when I hunt with my brother and brother-in-laws. That is usually only two weeks out of the season max. Other than that its all bow and I like it that way.
I haven't gun hunted whitetails in about 10 years, but headed out this season and can't wait. My grandfather passed last spring so decided to take his only .308 out and try to do him proud. Have a sweet looking public land spot I'm headed to, haven't had a buck tag in my pocket since mid October and can't wait to get in stand with a chance at harvesting something with antlers.
