NC allows hunting on Sunday with a bow which I continue to take advantage of. I will pick up the rifle for a while. Too many tags to fill and very little time due to work schedule.
Business as usual. I bowhunt land that rifle isn't allowed in. I do hear a few gunshots off in the distance on other properties sometimes.
Most of the time during gun season I will be sitting with someone with the camera in hand. I might carry a muzzle loader for a sit or two, otherwise its bow all year long.
Bow hunt only for me. I vacate about 1/2 my land waiting out the orange army and hunt the other half where I feel I can get to and from my truck with all my body parts.
I've only bowhunted these past ten years and right through gun season. This year, I bought a gun license after a missed opportunity at a giant last year during gun season where he was at 60 yards and just wouldn't come any closer. But...I left the tag in the man cave and took my bow each time out this gun season. Nothing against gun hunting. I would go if I was part of a camp or if relatives did. But its usually just me. Next year, though, I'll buy another gun license so I can take my 11 year old hunting. He's shooting a compound bow right now but he has his whole life to bowhunt. And I'd rather we get some confidence going and then switch to bow. Lord knows when I started bowhunting all on my own in my mid 20s, there were a lot of ups and downs those first few years. A lot of time seemed like more downs.
I am the kind of hunter that likes to kill deer. Big bucks are what I am after and most years I have no reason to buck hunt gun season because I have already filled my one and only buck tag. Bow hunting is my first preference but once gun season comes in the bow gets hung up until late archery season.
The area I am hunting this year only allows guns during its short gun season and there is no I will hang it up for two weeks. I have almost as much fun gun hunting anyway, so I like to switch it up.
If I am in the woods hunting, it's with a bow. Deer, turkeys, bear...after a very close call around 2007 where an old guy almost shot me (I honestly heard the bullet buzz past, VERY scary sound) I gave up hunting in rifle season. Too many "gotta getta deer" types in Pa's rifle season. I will carry my bow in gun season if I have tags, but it is in areas guys can't gun hunt.
Bow all season for me it is legal to use the Bow during gun season in VA. Grandson is coming down for Thanksgiving and I will take him out gunning for his first deer
Made a vow not to gun hunt till I got one with my bow.Last year just hog. This year once again on opening day got a hog. But will wait for bow deer
Like GregH said...I'm a deer hunter. I hunt with whatever weapon is in season and don't feel any less of an accomplishment for taking my target buck with a gun vs a bow. I used to think taking a buck with a bow was more special, but now it's about targeting a specific buck and getting the job done, no matter the weapon.
I tag out with my bow before gun season starts most years, if not I keep hunting. I have no issue with gun hunting but I have zero luck with a gun
