The thought for the thread came after Dwight Howard received his suspension and Rajon Rondo did not today. We all remember the scandal a few years ago, and the NBA "promised" to fix the situation.

In my eyes, i don't think it has. After reading on ESPN today, i learned that the referee who ejected Tim Duncan a couple years ago for laughing and blew a late series call recently refereed a Spurs playoff game....where does that make any sense?

And how does Howard get suspended for an elbow when Rondo said DURING HIS INTERVIEW that he did swiped at Brad Millers face ON PURPOSE? Its doesn't make any sense at all to me.

I feel the NBA really needs to do something about its corrupted officials.

My view can best be described as...

"I don't care about any athlete.. since they make a quad-zillion dollars more than I ever will and for ALOT LESS WORK.. therefore they should just shut up and play.. NO WHINING EVER.. or we'll just have to make them all take standardized tests every year so they can refresh their little minds on what the traveling violation really includes.. since they ALL TRAVEL REPEATING-LY EVERY GAME."

(yes.. yes.. i realize repeating-ly is not a word).

Duke, what about actors, singers, directors, any other celebrity? Does your view include them too or does this only pertain to pro athletes (or even just NBA players?)?

    Just curious

All of them pretty equally. Don't get me wrong.. their are lots of dudes out there who are humble enough to know when to shut-up.. cause you make millions.. and the quickest way for people to start dis-liking you is for you to talk.

Basketball players always seem like the worst of all the cry-babies.. well.. them and left-wing B movie actors. I so got you there Martin Sheen.:busted:

One day you'll work for a living Siman.. and you'll know what I mean. For 20 million a year.. I don't ever want to hear your voice.. just slam-dunk.. make your free-throws.. and talk about playing as a team.

Corrupt refs.. the only thing corrupt about the refs is ALL the traveling they don't call anymore.

    Duke,
While I don't dispute that NBA athletes shouldn't be complaining, I really think its hard to say that they don't work hard. Being a professional athlete is one of the most physically demanding professions, period. I've heard some people say "An NBA player wouldn't be able to handle one day as a construction worker, digging ditches, etc. etc." But, then again, how many construction workers could run 10 miles a day, shoot 5000 jumpers, lift weights, do quickness/speed workouts, etc. etc. and come out alive?

I know here at UVA typical in season days involves being at the arena for about 6-8 physically demanding hours with the off-season demanding that much time and more, so I can't even imagine exactly how many hours players are putting in each day in the NBA. Again, should they be complaining? Not at all. Do they work hard? Absolutely.

Your right.. I didn't phrase that correctly.. they work hard.. all of them do.

But because of their HUGE salaries (paid in large because of you and me) I still don't want to hear them talk. A teacher should be paid more than some yahoo who can't even make 60% of their free-throws when all they do is practice free-throws for hours a day.. days a year.

And as far as comparing a construction worker to a athlete.. that's like apples and oranges.. sure an athlete can lift and work out everyday.. that's what happens when you only work 1/2 the year.. or get the opportunity (cause you didn't put in a 10 hour day in which you can no longer stand on your own feet anymore). That's part of their career.. but you can't complain about it.. not when you're making 1-25 million a year. Complain to your family.. not to mine.

Come out in the -20 degree temps with a concrete guy all winter long.. go teach 30 kids a year for 9 months everyday (i'd kill myself).. manage 30 employees for a small business and work 60 hours a week.. separate and deliver mail (kill myself here too)..

the point is.. each has it's own downfalls.. and crazy work routines.. you can't compare them.. and the only difference.. the people above usually don't make more than 100,000 a year.. maybe EVER. Some not more than 50,000 a year!

I just don't feel sorry for anyone of them (athletes)... and their little tiffs about "corrupt" referees.

Shut up.. and shoot the ball. Your salary comes from my watching you. You work for me.. and I don't ever want to hear you speak.

There's not many calls in the NBA, and even less defense. If you wanna watch a fast paced game, with a lot of offense (like most do) watch NBA.. I honestly like watching college though, just because in my eyes it's more of how basketball is supposed to be played.

I find myself not complaining about refs as much ever since I reffed a few HS basketball games in college for beer money. Several times I was seriously scared for my life after games. I appreciate refs a little more after that experience.

As far as the NBA refs, I have yet to watch a game in which it was blatantly obvious that the refs effected the outcome of the game, and I have watched most of the playoff the games so far.

My view is that I am a basketball fan...but I HATE the NBA. I'd rather watch paint dry.

Nothing beats the college final four tourney IMO when it comes to B-ball.
