See, here I was thinking headshots were taboo due to the small, moving target. Now its a penetration issue?
i said nothing about moving targets..... its always been a penetration issue. lol A deer bedded down or in a field is going to catch bullet in the head (moving faster than the speed of sound, which is right around 1100 fps) faster than it hears the shot. way less variables.
It's photos like this that cause ethical hunters like myself to loose hunting properties. I live and hunt in a area where the community is trying to pass a "no projectile" ordinance. They catch wind of these pictures and show them at there next township meeting. I've seen pictures of deer shot in the mouth, hind quarters, legs etc.. and are all still alive. These deer end up suffering a long and painful death. Who is going to allow bow hunting on there property when they see pictures like this. I can see this photo has caused much controversy and I feel bad for the kid for getting slammed. I think it has opened up our eyes to all the different types of hunters that are out there. Sad!
i think it was an accident a buddy of mine who was hunting this year for the first time shot a deer facing right at him at like 10 yards he was hunting out of one of my blinds and the deer dropped its head a lil and he killed it right on contact and i mean things happen like that but they shouldnt u should always wait for a ethical shot like broadside or quartering away
Pictures like that make me a rather sick. Certainly no place for that in this world. For the shooters sake I really hope it was just a bad shot but I don't think that is the case. I know personally if I ever hit a deer in the head I would be sick to my stomach for ever everytime I thought about it. Don't know that I could live with myself after that.
is it unethical? maybe would i take that shot? no now the side of the head i dont see a penatration issue i mean i have tested broadheads through a steel drum and get a pass through on both sides of it. when that hits the brain its a dead deer. people take spine shots and nothing is said about that people take 75yrd shots and thats ok. now granted the pic does nothing but bad for the sport and shooting through the nose like that is completely insane. but think about it that deer did not suffer at all opposed to a lung shot where she could have ran in pain for 100 plus yards or a gut shot where it could have been 500 yrds. but to answer the ? i would get the whole story on if it was really a intentional shot or a 1/4 to shot gone wrong. if it was intentional he would get an ass chewing just for shooting through the nose like that but that was a hell of a shot lucky or not
I have seen another bow kill like that but it was an accident- I did have a friend shoot one that way with a gun - not a shot for me nic
