    Ok I have to ask.

Tim Wells shoots a bear in the head on his show intro...shown every week. It wasn't self defense, he stalked and shot it. No one says a peep about that??

Turkeys get shot in the head. Rabbits? You bet.

I suppose you only need ethics to hunt the mystical whitetail.

That is not hunting in my book, that is just called killing, and there is a big difference!

I'll add another thing to this too. Why Is ok to take yard bomb shots at animals with archery equipment but not ok to take a head shot at close range with a bow? Don't get me wrong, I can't stand this shot In the least but I think It's kinda comical some people are defending others or themselves for taking long bomb shots at animals but not this one at close range If It was Indeed a close shot? There both low percentage shots no matter your skill level or how well you "think" you know the animals actions at the time. Another thing too, the picture Itself Is going to draw negativity from anyone. It looks terrible!!

ButtonBuck...You make many good points and I've argued both sides. The fact is, we do put the Whitetail on a pedestal.

I have no clue who Tim Wells is, but yes even the paper turkey targets they sell are just necks and heads.

We all watched the Gobbler Gulletine broadhead video of it slicing off a Tom's head.

I have no answer but I do know gruesome pictures don't help.

well i have to say, that shooting one animal in the head isn't the equivalent of shooting another in the head. last time i checked, a turkey skull wasn't even close to the same thickness as a deer. same with all the small game animals. i never have seen the video of the guy shooting a beer in the head, but if he did it on purpose, he's a dumbass too. shooting a deer in the head or head on, or any poor angle is foolish. your odds of a good clean kill are horrible and that's why we as hunters (most anyways) would never do it. as far as taking a long shot, that is different in my mind. yes odds go down but with practice it's up to each individual to decide what is his max range to shoot with an accurate shot, a broadside shot :)

I personally wouldn't take it, but I can see both sides to the arguement.

    Gun hunters do it.
Bow hunters do it for many other species.
People take terribly low percentage shots all the time, whether it be angle of entry or sheer distance.
    It IS a lethal shot.

I wouldn't do it, but certainly wouldn't disown someone for it either. If you offered me a head shot with a bow at 15 yards vs a gun at any yardage over 50, and I'd accept the bow challenge every single time. Why the double standard?

tim wells is a moron. I have never seen it otherwise i would probably had posted about it. Glad i dont watch his snow.
Turkeys, and rabbits? Come now. Its an ethical shot because the arrow can pass completely through a rabbits head. And on a turkey it's about the most ethical shot.
Hell with a gun a head shot it perfectly acceptable on a deer. But did you happen to look at the penetration there? Or the thought that he put an arrow in the tip of the nose? I suppose he wasn't thinking anatomy when he took that one
That comparison was ludicrous....amazing you would think that:mad:

that said, we have found Muzzy's in a coupla deers heads. no penetration through the skull at all, well enough to lodge behind a jaw on one. so yeah, it woulda been leathal. in about a month. from slowly inhibiting the use of the deers jaw....

Oh I know, the gun hunter "didn't want to waste any meat".With a bow....he's just a worthless slob, wounding untold dozens of poor deer.

No. a shotgun slug has 2500 ft lbs or better of kinetic energy to blow through a bone and do massive damage...whereas your bow might have 75......maybe.

tell yah what. take a steel plate. shoot your bow through it into some ballistic gel. mark the damage.
then take a lightfield IDS command and do the same....i am willing to say the command out damages and out penetrates...by JUst a little
hell do it with a 1/4" piece of steel.....
