looking for 60 # shooters in that 26-28" DL range. maybe your KE and MO and fps if you know it. I am considering going to a 400 gr arrow for next year. Currently shooting a 376 gr and I am not able/want to spend anymore $ on this set up right now. thanks
Yes it could affect the spine and will most likely have to do some tuning but buying some 125gr field points and doing some testing would be much cheaper than buying new arrows to begin with. I like to use insert weights instead of heavier points so I don’t have to buy new broadheads. Just need a gold tip fact wrench to add them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I shoot a 30" 500gr arrow from my 60# Hoyt at only 250fps, but it gives me 69.5ft-lbs of KE. This delivers a good thumping!
running through numbers I found that I would gain about 2 lbs of KE and get up to .47 MO from 45 now and at about 60 KE now. I also see that I am pretty close to that line of diminishing returns.. Too much weight and I lose KE and MO ...
One set up I am running is a 64 pound 28.25 rig, I am shooting ACC’s with total weight 422 @ a chronoed 272 fps. Looking at about 70ke and .52 mo. BTW I like how your looking at this from an analytical standpoint not too many people understand balance and diminishing returns
well there is always that part to the equation where less is more....after looking at numbers it may be really hard for me to get to 400 gr. I certainly can go higher but with negative returns....27" really kills the KE and MO
I shoot 60# now that I've dropped down. My arrows are 29" though. They weigh right at 530 grains and they move at a blistering 242 fps. This is what I got from an online calculator:
I have 2 arrows that shoot well from my #60 bow. One is 454gr and the other is 428gr. No clue on arrow speed, I don't care. The last bow I chrono'd was in 1982...is was a blazing 188fps.
I shoot 60# at 29.5. My arrow is 416 grains with 12%foc Sent from my VS985 4G using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I shoot 68# at 26.5" draw. My arrow weighs 425 grains. I find this to be a great combinations of arrow speed and momentum. I have had a pass through on every deer that I have shot with this set up. Easton Axis arrows cut to 27 3/4" with 100 grain Slick Trick Magnums.
I'm shooting 28" dl at 65# with a 458gr arrow between 268-270 fps. That is putting me at about 74.5 foot pounds of ke and .551 MO. With a fixed head this is has always been a great set up for deer and if I were to go after elk or moose which hopefully one day I have that opportunity I don't think that I would change one thing.
ok good stuff.. it looks like I am shooting around 270 fps at 27" draw at 60# with a 376 gr arrow. which the calculator say 60 KE and 45 MO. I would probably go up to a 400 gr arrow to add just a bit of KE and MO and mostly get the bow even quieter than it is, but I assume this current set up is just fine. I do however shoot Rage Hypodermics, not the +p , the regular ones. never shoot past 25 yds if that. have not shot a deer with this set up yet.
I shoot 28.5" DL, 65lbs. DW, 430 gr. Arrow. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I shoot 377 grain maxima blues, a pretty light arrow for my setup, but I get 86 pounds of KE. I’m shooting 28.5 inch draw 76 pounds.. I sure like my monster wake... Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Rite at 420 total weight including 100grain swhacker. Old and disabled but I shoot 22" Easton bloodline bolts (10.5"), brass inserts, quick Fletch vanes, and nocturnal lighted knocks. Might be just a little heavier. My Barnett predator with it's 16" power stroke creates 133'/lbs. kenetic energy with the lighter bolts that came with (approximately 2grain per in lighter). It blows through what veers in its way. Including my Glendale buck target.
