Where do you like to hang regarding deer in and around the rut? Food edge, between bed and food, up against bedding? Just wondering where the most success has been seen.

In or downwind of a doe bedding area that is also a funnel.

We have a few set-ups that cover travel routes to and from the bedding/feeding. Those seem to always produce encounters with good bucks. We also have one set up right in a big thick bedding area off of a main travel trail that I am excited about. Last year I only had one good wind to hunt it and elected to hunt a different stand while we were down.

I don't want to be set up downwind from a bedding area...a good spot between to bedding areas with a wind in my face giving me the ability to blow over any bucks cruising by me (I'm 26.5 feet up in the tree I'm envisioning currently) but also let them feel the wind is somewhat in their favor and able to move slightly quartering into the wind <--something the true mature bucks will do IMO 99% of the time save those very few rut crazed moments they may slip up.

Near buck beds in the AM or PM, and in funnels midday.

For the rut, a funnel between 2 doe bedding areas with a creek crossing in the pinch point.

This is simply my favorite location during the rut where I hunt. 2 years ago I burned out this location in early October by over hunting it.

Last year I did access it or even hunt it until November 15th and experienced one of my best days (for numerous buck sightings) in a single day. From 8 AM- 2 PM there was literally not a single moment I could leave my stand. There were (5) 1.5-2.5 buck constantly chasing (3) does across the river and up/down the river. It was also a really crappy day 'cause I missed a huge buck around 10:30 that came in from behind me and caught my scent stream. As I released a shot at him at 31 yds he turned. I watched the arrow fly where I aimed, but it went flying right past his shoulder as he turned. He stood at around 100 yds until he took chase after a immature buck.

Between the bed area and feeding zone you cant go wrong with that or a nice open field that turns into cover then leads to a food source. Worked out good for me this past rut

I hunt an area of public land that has a huge bedding area that comes out to an oak flat with a creek at the bottom of the ridge. They have everything they need right there.

I get up in my special tree about 30-35 feet in my climber, which is near a small stream about 25 yards away. There are 3 buck/doe trails that intersect right there where there are always fresh scrapes and rubs. worked well last year, sat there 7 days in a row last rut beginning of last November. saw several different large bucks, countless numbers of doe....BUT don't ask why my freezer is empty!! operator error!!!!

I have setup the last 2 years in a Stand that is right in the Front part of the woods, The 1st I stayed on Stand all day, I had a 160" Buck come in and Hard on a Doe, I could'nt Get a Shot, Or get him to stop, Again this past Gun Season I had the Same Thing about 11am, I had a 140 Maybe Higher, And Let Him Walk Because it was The first Day of Gun, and I knew There were 2 Bucks alot Bigger, I try and Shoot Mature Bucks, and Doe's

I like inside corners, pinch points, and funnels during the rut..also often sit in some of the to
obvious yet overlooked areas that most people think would be a waste of time or maybe unhuntable due to traffic or roads, activity.

We are in a high dpsm area so a mature buck will not leave a 20 acre section cuz plenty of ladies are in bed with him. Once I locate a shooter I hunt from 10 am till dark in the rut and always play the wind. Lots of mature bucks cruise mid day.

That sounds like 2 of my stand sets this coming season. I was hoping this was a good set up.
