I would have to say the peace and quiet of being in the woods. The heightened sense of awareness and melting away of the stress of the daily rat race we find ourselves in. Being able to spend time with animals in their natural environment, watching them interact with one another especially. I always feel blessed to be alive in these moments.
Mmmmmmm Venison. The heart racing when you see the antlers on a deer walking in, or when you hear the sounds of one approaching out of your sight.
I think for me, it is the challenge itself. It is not easy getting a deer in range to shoot with a bow. I consider 40 yards and in where I hunt, my max, and that is pushing it by 10 yards. The anticipation of hearing those quiet hooves coming close are enough to make my heart jump out of my chest. I know it is not the "kill" that drives me, but the challenge. I also enjoy just sitting out in God's creation on a cool autumn morning, listening to the woods "wake up"!!!
Vabowman....missed you brother As for me, I like the scouting and set up the most. Finding productive places to put up my stands in the big woods gives me great satisfaction.
It’s hard to say honestly. I spend months prepping my property, and of course I enjoy the hunting aspect. I spend a lot of time filming it and when the video comes together I have a great sense of accomplishment. But I’d have to say that honestly my favorite part of it all is the recovery. Knowing that you may walk up on the deer of a lifetime is far and away the most exciting part. Getting together with your buddies...grabbing some beer and the cameras, and retelling the story over and over again as your in the cold fall woods at night...that’s what it’s all about. You do it all for those moments. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
One of my favorite parts is upon initial recovery of the deer. I always try to say a prayer thanking God and the animal for its life, giving life to my family.
The strategy, planning and the chase. The kill for me is not that exciting but out smarting a mature buck is what gets me going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I like getting the cards from the cameras. Sitting in the tree with a little chill in the air. Lastly that feeling you get just as you draw back because it's about to get real.
I think my favorite part is seeing a deer follow down the trail i was expecting, i love when they play along with the script. And i also just love shooting my bow Sent from my SM-G930P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
A huge party of the enjoyment for me is being there when all of the bush is waking up and (fingers crossed) you've done everything right to not make your presence known. Watching the animals doing their own thing, like they would be any other day. It's a privilege us hunters have, being able to see and experience these things that most other people don't get to. It's an awesome thing being able to see these things! Being able to harvest the animal I am hunting is just an added bonus I've also had to kind of take this philosophy because the deer numbers have seen a steady decline because of over allocating tags in the areas I hunt... so less deer numbers therefore I am having to be more selective on what I take out of the herd as to not impact the numbers more negatively. There are lots of intuitive replies here it's nice to see!
I also love when I'm in my stand waiting for it to get light during the rut, and hear deer moving in the darkness close by. You know it's a buck hounding a doe!
Hmm.... Probably the quiet, especially after you get to your stand in the morning and you're sitting in the dark with anticipation! Then it's probably just seeing wildlife doing there thing, even if they aren't what you are going after.
Seeing the first "I got a text" thread In all seriousness...I love morning hunt, as the first light starts to break through the woods.
me too, even though I have killed most of my deer in the afternoon, it's just something about the drive out in the dark, the walk to the stand and the settling in
Without writing a essay. My favorite part is sitting a new stand knowing it's going to happen before it actually does. It makes cloud 9 hold you up there a little longer!
