Realistically, what do you guys expect to do w the accumulation of mounts down the road? Or do you just not kill them frequently enough for that to be a problem? I don't want to be rude, but what on earth would I do w 30-40 mounts 25-30 years from now? Enough money to buy a nice truck, sunk into decorations that will eventually be a huge burden for my family to deal with unless just thrown away.
I could care less what my family does with them after I'm gone, I think my boys would probably keep a few of the memorable ones around, I know I will certainly keep a few of my dads and grandfathers for as long as I'm alive. But after that I really don't care. I didn't mount or for that matter hunt the animal for anyone other than myself and as long as it brings me enjoyment to hunt and have them to look at/remember the hunts and good people they were shared with, I could care less. But surely as you inquire, your criteria for mounting an animal gets a lot more strict as time goes on.
You can sell them fairly easily.... donate them to different organizations, give them to freinds. For me it would have to be bigger and bigger each time or 175+ and that 175+ might only happen once.. I dont average a buck every year and I wont always shoot monster bucks so for me having 30-40 mounts isn't a worry
It really all depends. If I shoot a buck on my parent's property that is 110"+ I'd probably mount him. But it would take a deer in the 130"+ range on our lease in MS
