Got this on trail camera a week or so ago and trying to figure out what it is. I think it may be a cougar but they're pretty uncommon in southern Illinois, so I don't know. The pic quality is pretty bad so it's hard to tell.
Looks like a big cat to me. Cougars are not as uncommon as you might think, especially in the southern part of our state. Is there any way you can get a camera that takes better resolution shots on that spot? Perhaps you can capture some better pictures of whatever it is. Bone structure, gait, and tail, from what I can tell, sure look like a Cougar.
Cat or fox? Hard to tell without another pic from that spot of something to reference size. To me it looks waaay too small for a cougar.
Unless that tree is a redwood, I'd say it's too small to be a cougar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
