What is this tree/nut?

    The nut is about two times the size of an acorn, but it's not coming from an oak tree, as you can see.

    These pics were taken from just outside my apartment, in NC.

    Anyone know what they are?

    I think I need to admit it. I was wrrrrrr, wrrrrrrro, wrooooooooo, wroooooonnnn, wrong. :confused: There I said. Didn't quite look close enough the first time.:busted:
