I found a tree all shredded in an area I hunt. Is this from a bear? I heard porcupine can tear up a tree pretty good. 9312F26A-5183-4B70-8F4D-3A147930EBA4.jpeg 9ED107BF-64A2-4566-A26C-95436018C956.jpeg

Very true, could well be. It does look rather extensive though.

I am going to get a pick of a cottonwood the pileated hammers on, seems to save it for different times of the year.

I do see them up here occasionally, I’ve been seeing a lot bear tracks here this year also.

Looks like woodpeckers and it could be multiple different kinds.

    Agree on woodpecker.

My experience, bear seem to favor downed logs. I do have a pic where they climbed a tree and left claw marks in the tree.

Porcupine, pine and red squirrels leave a mound of waste, under the tree (e.g. Shredded pine cones, bark).

I'm guessing a bear. Saw a tree with claw marks about seven feet up.
