I know its a lil off topic but I know there are a few Mainiacs on here. I will be going to the freeport, ME area for 4-5 days. Anything I should do while Im there. My wife will be with me and she loves fishing so that'll happen and I am sure I'll have to put in some hours shopping with her. Plus we'll probably hit L.L. Bean while we're around. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys!

I was just up there last week on a little family vacation. Lobster is always a must when youre in maine, it was 3.99$ a pound when I was there. L.L. Bean is cool if youve never been, but its not a whole lot different than most outdoor apparel stores. Theres a great microbrewery in freeport called Gritty Mcduffs. If youre a beer guy I highly recommend the blackfly stout. My wife and I always have a lunch there with a few beers and then bring a sampler home with us.

My suggestion is keep going north and hit the REAL state of Maine. Go on up to the county and see what its all about. You get south of Augusta area and its not a whole lot different than Mass and Connecticut. Lobster is a must! Freeport is really a shoppers destination. TONS of small shops and of course there's always Beans. What ever you do I am sure you will have fun and enjoy it!

Yup, I'm already taking orders for lobster. So far it looks like I'll be smuggling back a few coolers full. Thanks for the info guys. Last time I went up to Maine we stayed at Bar Harbor. It was a good time. We went to Acadia and Cadillac mountain for sunrise. Did all the typically sight seeing. This trip will only be for a few days so I wont have time to really get around and do a ton. I'll definetely drop by the brewery and and eat my share of lobster while I'm there. I need to do a little research and find some decent places to fish. I don't expect anyone to give me that info.

About 30 minutes down the coast from Freeport south of Scarborough on pine point there is a fishermans co-op, and if you talk to the guys hanging around there you'll find someone to take you out inshore fishing for mackerel, stripers, and bluefish for relatively cheap. It's also a great place to find the freshest lobster and steamers around!

There is a Cabela's around Augusta. If you can, take a daytrip to Bar Harbor and visit Acadia National Park. By far, my favorite NP. Eat alot of lobster. It's very cheap up there.

The Cabelas is located in Scarborough which is about an hour and fifteen minutes south of Augusta, just a dight south of Portland.

If you fly fish there is awesome salt water fishing for stripers in that area!! If you go to ll bean they will tell you where to go and what to use? The outlets there are pretty good to shop at and I could spend a day in ll bean? Are you just staying in Freeport if you want to travel from there a bit I could tell you some places to go for world class salmon and trout. Let me know

That'd be great. We plan on getting some non-res fishing licenses and I'd love to land some nice trout or salmon. I'd be willing to travel for sure. Thanks!

West forks area its like another 2 hours north you have the kennebec river which has landlocks, brook brown and rainbow trout and the dead river that has the same. Its exit 133 off 95 take 201 right there plenty of places to stay and plenty of restaurants and bars too. If you want to go whitewater rafting thats the place to be...

Haha, that's too bad. I'm up here now. Stopped at Mcduffs last night. Good beer! The nachos were awesome too. Thanks for the heads up.
