Have confidence in your choice of location. KNOW you are in the right spot and its just a matter of time. If you dont believe in the spot you'll get sloppy, you'll arrive to late, wont care about the wind, move around a lot and leave to early. If you dont believe in it you shouldnt be there.

Be alert on stand at all times. That one moment you let your guard down will probably be when that big guy mysteriously appears on you and you're not ready (that means put the smartphone away).

This all good advise and take what pertains to your situation and run with it. You need a little luck on your side also, so have your girlfriend help with that.

    PRACTICE!!!!!

    Practice shooting
    Practice becoming a better hunter
    Practice using your equipment
    Practice with your stands
    Practice getting mentally focused
    Practice good scouting techiques
Practice using winds to yours and the deers advantage
Practice EVERYTHING you do, so that when the time comes its all natrual!

And just when you think you've practiced enough, mother nature will throw you a curve ball hahaha its just hunting!

I think much of this is true. Too much gear and too much time spent on stuff that doesn't actually yield results. Good post.

The more time spent on stand, the better your odds of getting a shot.

In the target rich environment you hunt in....this should be all you need to put down big bucks year after year.

I am guilty of analyzing things on a micro level...

Dissect your hunting areas... Analyze... Capitalize.

This may sound simple... But the work you must put in to understand your lands and the deer on them to be able to micro analyze is tremendous.

In other words... A lot of time studying your lands and your deer. After you get a solid understanding of both, things will fall into place when you are in your stand.

Never let them see you move.

Forget the fist pumping and chest bumping that you see on TV shows when they have shot a buck. Your ahead of the game if you can shoot without having to stop a deer and thus having them notice you, and after you release your arrow, its in your best interest to freeze. A deer that is shot but isnt aware that anything or any predator (you) was present will travel a lot less distance before laying down than a deer that is shot and sees or hears you after the shot. It may not be a big deal on a shot through the boiler room, but I can guarantee the success rate of finding a gut shot deer increases dramitically if they do not know your there or dont get bumped than if you were to spook them at the shot.
