Why to do Dems obsess over her? fear She's an idiot, but she has a huge following. Someone who is as dangerous as her with the following she has is scary. Me personally, I enjoy her general passive aggressive "the media is always out to get me" attitude. It provides for quite the comical experience anytime she graces the airways with her presence. In stealing one from Robin Williams, it really is like Ronald Reagan had a child with Posh Spice!
Sarah Palin does not speak for the majority of Republicans so I do not see why they chose her as the VP candidate in the prior election. Poor choice all around. She needs to go away and do her thing in Alaska. I could care less what she has to say as she is like a Barnum and Bailey circus sideshow.
Brett, Do you think it is a circus because the media makes it a circus or because she makes it a circus?
I'm no fan of hers... but to actually believe she is stupid is a serious mistake... she is not, much like GWB was not stupid and even Dan Quayle was not stupid... it was easy to portray them that way (especially when you have a media that actually WANTS to do that), but to actually believe that is a very serious error in judgment on democrats part...
Maybe stupid is a bad word. Maybe I should have said "she doesn't know a lot of things that a person in her position and profession should know." Is that better? Even my 6 year old knows Africa is continent, and not a country. I usually avoid the political discussions on here. I prefer the more civil topics like God and religion. Speaking of which, I believe God or religious beliefs should never play a role in politics.
I tend to agree... but like GWB and Quayle, she's cursed with a media willing to jump on every single misstep of the tongue... iirc, the africa comment she had properly id'd it as a continent about two sentences prior, just a slip, nothing more... but again, I'll say this, a spoken stumble does not equate to stupid or dumb... I tend to agree with this as long as you are conceding that politics and government are separate... religion has no place in govt... in politics its completely different... imo, politics is nothing but the skill of gaining elected office... using religion in politics can be completely appropriate depending on your constituency... but governing with it is problematic...
I think SHE is the sideshow. And the media (most of which is slanted from the left) distorts her image even more. She needs to be severed from the Republican movement for good. Hey, "its just politics".
that would be a horrible idea for republicans... that would be the moment the Tea Party became an actual political party instead of a movement from within... it would splinter the republican party so bad it would be unlikely they would return to power for 40yrs... from a long term strategic standpoint this is a horrible idea... keep her around for her ability to motivate voters and raise money... it would be colossally stupid to do otherwise
Seven, if you really believe that and so do the Republicans, then maybe I am just not a Republican anymore.
Ok, but with Palin and the others you mentioned, you really don't have to look that hard. The continent wasn't a "slip". The topic came up during her campaign "training". She didn't know Africa was a continent and was confused when they asked her if she thought South Africa was a country within the country of Africa. Man, I wish they had video of that conversation. Didn't know Africa was a continent, didn't know what countries were in NAFTA, didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was, only VP candidate in the last 32 years that hadn't met with a foreign head of state...those are just a few examples. Has there ever been a more unqualified VP candidate? Of course, this could all be rumors spread by liberal media and gotcha journalism. I don't think its all her fault. She got thrown into a position she shouldn't have been in. And because of this, a lot of people will still view her as a publicity stunt to get votes, and they can't take her seriously. She very well could study hard before the next election and be a more qualified candidate for president, than she was a few years ago. FTR, I don't favor one party over the other, blindly. I just call it like I see it.
