Me and my dad usually take a week off in November and hunt all 7-10 days. It's usually around the second week of November.
I take 3 weeks in November. Did 8 all day, dark to dark sits and realized nothing local was big enough. The bow rut hunt I now sleep the morning and hunt 10am till dark. Lots of action mid day.
I normally take the entire 9 day Wisconsin gun season off from work. Normally hunt hard everyday, except for Thanksgiving Day afternoon, and the final Sunday afternoon. Back in 2005 I was unemployed during the fall, and for a 5 week span (mid October thru mid November) I hunted Thursday morning thru Tuesday night. Then I would go home, spend Wednesday looking for jobs, checking mail, washing hunting clothes and SHOWERING (no running water at my hunting cabin) So basically I hunted 5 straight weeks with only 1 day off per week.
Last year I hunted Montana for 5 days, flew home and drove to Ohio the same day. Hunted Ohio 7 days and drove to Indiana for a 4 day hunt. Ohio and Indiana were dark to dark. Montana we went in for lunch. That was the most grueling thing I have ever done and I came home with two un-filled tags, but I loved the whole experience!
With my job I work 2.5 months, then off for 45-60 days, if its hunting season, I'm there 45-60 days until the day I leave.....it's basically my second job. I'm either hunting, tracking+ hunting, setting up stands+ hunting, or some other aspect of "hunting"
The most consecutive hunts I've done so far is a full 3 day weekend. Friday and Saturday of that weekend were all day ( dark till dark) sits then Sunday I did a morning and evening sit.
Three years ago I was on an extended vaction for a whole year. I had been let go from the company I had worked for after 30 years and had a severence package for a year with full pay. I hunted 22 straight days before taking a couple off to rejuvinate. All toll I hunted 72 days that year out of a possible 86 days of all the combined season. Man I look forward to retiring so that I can hunt that much again...
the most consecutive hunts in a row would be 6 for me... morning and evening hunts wanting to do more this year if possible!!!
The year i went to boot camp i quit working Sept 30th and hunted almost everyday from oct 1st until Nov. 22nd i may have missed 3 days of hunting those two months. That was morning and evening hunting
8 days dark to dark.... My arse was hurting after that, plus it was time to head back to my home state
last year I hunted 11 days straight; dawn to dusk in my stands on every day but 2. I weighed about 210lbs on day one; by day 12 I weighed less than 200. I lost a big doe after I hit her a bit high and back, and passed on a couple of youngster bucks. Heartbreak aside (losing the doe,) it was still one of the best hunting trips of my 23 year career. Deer ever day, and some really cool encounters. I hunted very hard, hiked all over the place. It was worth every minute.
I've hunted 8 days a few times while on out of state hunts . I did get laid off at the start of deer season several years ago and planned to hunt for a couple of months but I ended up shooting a good buck the first week so I went and got another job . I don't usually worry about taking time off to hunt locally as there are only 2 days a week that I cant spend at least 6 hours in the woods .
