about 10 below-temp, wind chill about 20 below. Lasted 3 hrs and then realized the deer were smarter than i was.
I shot a jackrabbit when it was 20 or 30 below. Actual temp not windchill. My bow broke. I didn't deer hunt much up in ND but I did rabbit hunt a lot and ran some traps. I loved 'rat trapping in sub-zero temps. The hatchet would get to be a big ball of ice because the water would freeze to it instantly. Also when I pulled the traps out of the water they would glaze with ice instantly. I would have to keep dipping the body-grip traps in the water so I could set them with out the ice boogering up the triggers. Trapped 'rats were rolled in the snow to dry them off. It worked slick. I never wore gloves when I trapped but it didn't bother me.... back then. Coldest it got was -45 with a windchill of -110. (back before they changed the windchill around) It was fun... but I don't want to move back to ND any time soon.
About 25 years ago i hunted for three hours in a tree at 15 above while some doe worked there way to me and after i shot the nanny doe thats when it got cold.long walk to the truck i could not feel my feet anymore sat in the truck for what felt like hours trying to get warm. Thought i was going to lose my feet to frostbite. I hope i am wiser now In cold temps you need a hunting buddy and a cell phone it dont take long to get into trouble in the woods too many guys dont think about the what-if when your young and dumb
I tend to avoid looking at the temperature. I know its cold when theres a half inch of frost in the outhouse! Duck and goose hunting one time as a kid my Dad had to chisel my boots out of the ice when we were ready to leave. the following morning of the same duck and goose hunting trip the well cared for semi auto shot guns froze up!!
Several years ago I was out when the high was 6. The wind chill was around -12. Arrowed a doe from the ground at eight yards.
I have hunted in 0 degree weather with colder wind chills. However years ago I camped for a week in Yellowstone National Park on a NOLS course. Temps ranged from -25 up to 20. Cold camping when you are sleeping in an igloo. I was tougher back then.
I had two occasions this year where I was borderline hypothermic. Once when I was out during the rain when it was about 40 degrees, and the other was around 20 degrees and I wasn't adequately dressed for the weather. I was dizzy, disoriented and couldn't feel my limbs. But the coldest i've ever hunted was last duck season, it was -10. I kept getting up every half hour and chopping down brush to reinforce the blind, that kept me warm, only shot one duck though.
The coldest I remember hunting in was a late season bow hunt, on the ride to the land my truck was reading -14.
I think it's funny how we all think that hunting for a few hours below freezing is tough, but the deer that we are hunting actually LIVE in these conditions everyday. Just another way of understanding how tough these animals really are. As far as it goes for me, coldest I've been out in bow was in the teens, not sure of windchill though.
I think it was around zero a couple years ago. But I did have a Heater Body Suit, those things really help.
I'm not quite the die hard many of you are. I don't remember hunting anything below 10° or so. Maybe when I was a kid but not recently at least. Hell I turn the heater on in my pop up when it hits 40°.
I've been out well below zero but don't hunt that much when it is below 20*. Below zero weather is made for fishing.
Coldest for me was -16 a few years back with a foot of snow on the ground..... I killed a deer that same week and it was -13 when I got to the truck!
3 years ago I was hunting with a buddy & after he killed a nice 8 pointer it was -22 (actual temp) when we got him back to the truck. During the gutting process we continually had to stick our hands in the deer to keep them from freezing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My first Elk hunting trip in Wyoming it was -15 to -20 for 5 days straight. I almost swore off elk hunting until I shot mine. I was 15 at the time and it was miserable.
With the gear I have now, I don't think it can get cold enough to freeze me out. I have sat many times in the teens below zero or colder without issue. Wind chill factor is usually the big one. 15 below and no wind is not to tough, where as 5 degrees and a 25 mph wind will cut through you like a knife if you aren't prepared.
Mine was -10 at start, then -4 for the days high, but no wind and was actually really piecefull. I would take that weather over 15 degrees and 15mph wind anyday. I tried coyote hunting at -4 and all my mouth calls froze up within 5 minutes. Shed hunting in subzero weather is enjoyable with no wind too, but your moving.
In the modern times, cell phones have become an essential part of our life. You will be out of fashion if you have no cell phone. One hand, you can send massages and make phones to your friends or your colleagues with phones at any time in any places. On the other hand, we will enjoy our life with it, such as listening to music, playing games, taking photos, recording a vedio, suffering the internet, etc. But more and more people are using cell phones at the expense of public interest. They talk aloud over the cell phones, the endless ringtones sounded everywhere. How to cope with the noises of cell phones in public has drawn public attentions in many places of the world. Do we have to force ourselves to listen to the noise generated by cell phones? Of course not, mobile phone jammer is a useful tool for us to deal with the noise pollution.I have bought one for my convenient life, so if you have the same problem with me, you can come to get one. You will find the cool of it.
