There's a lot of good ones. I never watched it when it was in production, but I like Everybody Love's Raymond, and of course Seinfeld is a classic.

There were a lot of good ones from the time I was growing up until now like:
    McHales Navy
    Hogans Heroes
    The Munsters
    The Addams Family
    SOAP
    All In The Family
    The Jeffersons
    Benson
    Alf
    Mork And Mindy
    3rd Rock from the Sun
Dinosaurs (was one of my kids favorites)
Mash (although later years were more of making social statements)
    Cheers
    2 1/2 Men
    Big Bang Theory

And the Variety Shows like: Carol Burnett and The Smothers Brothers

    X 3 for cheers...

News radio was on its way until Phil Hartman was killed.

As with most of this there are several I would rank right up there depending on where/how old I was at the time...Silver Spoons/saved by the bell were cool as a kid as well

    Married with children

Iowa.... you're right. I thought of McHales Navy but forgot Hogans Heros. We never missed Hogan's heros. Comedy and drama mixed would include Bah Bah Blacksheep.

Roseanne for me. Loved that show growing up. I'm probably in the minority but Seinfeld to me was extremely overrated and just not very funny.
