You realize the D-Loop does not change the draw length of the bow? The cams and string are still set at roughly 28". The D-Loop only changes the anchor point of your release hand. I like COC fixed blades. I also like blades that have a cut-out as opposed to whole blades. They seem more accurate to me. CUT-OUT: WHOLE:
I keep a custom Browning model '86 chambered for .450 Alaskan in the truck or a .375/.338 improved Model 70 in camp for recovery but otherwise, Greg is right, I don't carry anything in the field. It's too much weight and bulk and if it's not in your hand, at-the-ready you're not going to have time to use it anyway. The best thing to pack is a good dose of sense balanced with a lot of respect.
I always hunt in narrow funnels on my ground and shots rarely if ever go over 20 yards so i can remember not shooting thru a deer. until last season i have used wasp jackhammers without any problems, went to the rage last fall on my new bow but never even pulled back the bow in the woods i got to picky and then got thru the season with a unfilled tags. back in my recurve days i shot a few deer with the old bear broadheads that went thru deer with a 40 lb bow. hope this was some kind of help.
I'm a traditional bow hunter (recurve) so my set ups need to be decent. I've used 5 different broad heads. Had excellent results with 4 out of the 5. I honestly got just as good of penetration with my 1 1/4 cutting diameter 125 grain 3 blade Snuffers as I got with 1 1/4 cutting diameter 125 grain 2 blade Satellite Titans, 2 blade Bear Razors and 220 grain Outback Supremes. The one Broadhead that didn't do well for me was a 204 grain 1 1/2 cutting diameter 3 blade Snuffer. This was my fault though, too big of a broadhead for my set up.
For me it was a 125 gr. landshark, problem it was not stainless. The G5 strikers I shoot now are awesome but that shark would flat eat
I have started shooting a Carbon Express XT4 and it is a very good head for me. It seems to perform better than the ST's on less than perfect shots, (meaning I pulled the shot and got into the shoulder). I have not shot deer with these only hogs. The way they perform on hogs I have not doubt they will do just as well on deer.
Carbon Express f-15's. I was only shooting a 60# bow at 224 fps and had an easy pass through, and I had a bad shot after the buck rotated and he still dropped within 20 yards.
On most deer... you get 10 -12 inches then dirt unless you hit bone. Pretty much all good sharp nonexpandables will go through every time. I like Muzzy 115 four blades. Expandables, I am still experimenting but am digging Trophy Ridge heads. I am researching the Grim Reaper... does anyone know if they rattle without having rubber bands?
Best one I have ever used was a Muzzy MX-4. With my Harvest Time arrows and my Darton it just blows thru deer and targets.
Increase your Kinetic I shoot a arrow weight on 414 grains with arrow speed of 281 on a 70lb bow using WASP SST broadheads gives enough penetration to put Bear down...
315 grain AK Bowhunting Supply Ashby Nanook But that's because it was driven with 80 lbs of draw force on an 860 grain arrow... It's all relative but 'nuff said:
