New Jersey might have a crossbow season next year and I was looking for some advice from seasoned vets. I'm considering the PSE TAC-15 and the Stryker by Bowtech. Any good comparasins of these two bows?? Any other crossbows meet their calibur of performance?? Help!!
I talked to my local bow shop. They told me that they will be buying a bunch of crossbows to gear up for the brand new crossbow season in New Jersey. I didn't know about a crossbow company called Ten Point; i'm new to this whole crossbow thing! Anyway, Ten Point seems to be right up there with Stryker and TAC-15. They all have a model that exceeds 400 fps. Impressive. However, I will have to narrow the options down to just one. Hmmmmm.....
My friend just bought a Tac 15, anyway it's on a DPMS lower. Shoots 4" groups at 100 yds. Might get one to replace my muzzleloader and shoot out of ground blinds on rainy days. Gonna shoot my Bowtech as long as I can though!
So crossbows are rated on how many times they can be dry fired before breaking? wow. Anyways, I've read good things about TenPoint and Barnett. **Edit - Good lord Jared, lets resurrect all the old threads why don't we?
Ten Point(also make Six Point and Wicked Ridge) is one of the best but you pay for them. Excaliber is another excellent brand. PSE, Parker, Barnett, Carbon Xpress and Horton all make great crossbows...any of these will do the job and depending on what you can spend and what you feel you need for speed and weight etc is the way to go. I have a Wicked Ridge warrior(the cheap one) and it is heavier than some others and a touch slower(around 285fps) but is a doe killing machine(what I use it for) for anything inside 45 yards...I do not shoot at the same spot on the target a 2nd time as you will ruin arrows. Basically any of the newer Xbows are going to do the job and you just have to find one that suits your needs/wants and budget. One other thing... get a good multi-reticle xbow scope and don't waste your time with the cheap red dots, otherwise just shoot with the pins
btw - this isn't bowhunting it is crossbow hunting and they are a heck of a lot easier to use and definitely deadly....also there are a couple smaller U.S. companies out there making incredible xbows but I can't remember the names and I wouldn't be able to justify spending that kind of money on any bow.
You guys are overlooking the HUGE draw of crossbows.....felons can now use them and hunt once again rifle style. As for "best" thats all up to the individuals preference though the "new" fad is reverse limb technology like my Barnett Vengeance.
I recommend go shoot at a dealer that has xbows and shoot a few of them....your opening a can of worms when asking...what is the best xbow....they come in all prices......get the one you can afford and it has to have the upgraded safety features...Thunderbolt52
