This is a FISHER... Not an otter, not a wolverine. As far as being a male or a female fisher... If anyone can say that from the picture, they are blowing smoke up your a..s The only way to tell is to flip them on their back and have a real close look... (good luck with a live one....) Most of it's ''apparel'' is hidden inside, even more so since the penis is a bone (Literally)
Since I think I'm the only one that mentioned anything about gender I guess I'll remark in return. Given most everyone agrees it's both a fisher and a huge fisher, what do you give the chances of it being male or female? Based on what I read, the males are the larger of the genders. Is it not safe to assume based on it's size that it is more likely than not a male? Lol, I didn't mean to start an argument based on making an assumption.
There is no doubt it is a fisher. Although it's big they get even bigger. I've sen many while hunting and had on camera as well. I can't believe people said wolverine!
Well since this forum goes all across the country, I'm only going on what is my experience around here and where I have been. We have fisher here and they are not a very large animal so based on the sizes that the op gave it made me think of other options. The martin is also an animal that could be included with that similar look but once again, even when hunting out west, I have never seen one that big.
Haha, you're not the only one mentioning gender... But I didn't target anyone in particular, just thought the male remark was pushing it... First, regarding the size difference between male and female, it can hardly be seen even if you put two of the same age right next to each other. Second, the fisher in the picture is closer to the camera than the salt lick, making it look bigger. I get the same illusions at my black bear bait sites... just a couple of feet closer to the cam and I think I have monsters visiting my baits. Very hard to field judge black animals with no antlers... Last, I use to trap for many years in the past, so I know my critters... If it's an animal I don't know, or if I'm not sure... I just don't say anything. Cheers,
Fisher. A buddy of mine watched one carry a possum through the woods. He said it had no problem at all doing it.
