I have been pulling cams out of the woods from various property's i hunt, I have been setting them up in the yard on a fixture and doing some test on them such as walk bye's at different distance from the cams at different walking speeds both in the daylight and the dark checking ir lighting and settings on my better cams such as mp and video modes there is some good info to be found running walk up test in the dark and see just how close it takes before the cam triggers. Also as you can see on a couple of the cams i have covered the ir lighting with a green shade trying to cut down on the overall lighting that the cam outs out because i was having trouble spooking some deer and changing there overall pattern which defeats the whole reason i am using them in the first place, for me anyways. This is the first batch, some cams are still in the woods and i will get to them later most are just copys of the same ones on my test rig. cams are primos 46,x...wgi x6c,spypoint 6, dlc colvert3.0, m80,ltl acorn low glow and black flash models I set a object up at 25 feet in front of the cams and did walk byes at 5,10,15,25,35,40 feet and there was some good info about the cams and i am still sifting thru some of the info but it's fun and you guys should test your cams.
Been scouting like crazy. On the technical side.. In the last week I have put new strings on my bow, a new rest, and built my new hunting arrows. Just a few more months and I will be chasing bears!
glad to hear that everybody is busy, I am glad I started this post, it reminded me of some things that I forgot about
Nothing right now, just enjoying my down time with family. but once spring hits - Finish off my box blind - Place a new stand - rebuild up our mineral sites - prepare for the spring food plot - Practice that is all i can think of for now.
Currently, I'm getting prepared to go on our feral elk/hog hunt in March in southern Oklahoma. On my personal farm, we are getting ready to do our 1st prescribed burn on 40 acres of NWSG. I also purchased 9 pear trees from Edward Fort nurseries that I plan on getting in the ground as soon as they get here. Planting our food plots this year in clover and chicory. Plan on making more pinch point areas that will hopefully funnel deer to better accessible stand sights. We have a few more Locust trees that can definitely help me out with this.
Kicking back waiting for the bucks to drop. Going to be a while yet. Do my scouting when I look for sheds. Really don't have much to do until this summer when we start getting serious about shooting bow and summer scouting. Otherwise this weekend I am going to take my daughter out muskrat trapping and enjoy the nice weather. Tim
I'm pretty much not doing anything. Checking trail cameras every 1-2 weeks to monitor which bucks are still around and when their sheds drop. Will spend some time looking for sheds over the next two months, then hopefully get all of my stands hung before May. I'm done with the mid-summer heat and bugs. Hang 'em early and then go enjoy my summer, that's the current plan.
I am currently enjoying my boys who are involved in sports. Also I am trying to enjoy some ice fishing but I only have managed a few times out due to this crazy weather.
