ELK!!! I was suppose to make it out west this year, but work got in the way. Next year the Elk are mine!!!
In order ...... 1. Elk (hopefully next year with Will ....if he promises to not wear a skirt :D) 2. Antelope 3. Moose 4. Caribou 5. Bighorn sheep
Get an Iowa tag for zone 5 for turkey season and I'll put you on some big ole birds to take w/bow. My wish list for bow starts and ends at ELK! If finanaces ever turn around, I'll be elk hunting in a heartbeat.
Im going out next year (2010) for Elk. After that I want to go after mulies, then the big one, Alaska Yukon Moose! I dont know if i'll ever get there, but i sure would love it!
All 5 NA Deer Species with Bow: Whitetail already done Elk (CO 2010 w/ Will) Mule Deer (Mountain spot and stalk) Moose (Alaska preferrably) Caribou (probably the last of the 5 I will hunt - due to access) After that Bighorn Sheep tops the list...and a mountain goat. (and I'm telling ya...that Blacktail hunting in Alaska looks like it could make the list) I plan to do at least the deer species all in the next 10 years - that way I'm "seasoned" and know the best ways to hunt these DIY on the cheap - so I can take my kids on these great experiences once they're teenaged.
I'm in the same boat as many of you,...my dreams are big. I'll work on them one at a time. Elk is first and I can't wait to start driving next Friday to meet Mr. Nelson. (It's startin to affect my sleep) :D Axis is kinda my next target as we have several of them running around freely on my lease. I guess next would be Pronghorn then Mulies and Black Bear. Hell, you name it and its on the list, it really doesn't matter what order I get them. Oh I can't forget whitetails, they've been givin me the slip the last few years.
Ironic U say these things as I was just telling my wife this morning, Man I am torn right now.... My bear bait is getting drilled, the elk are bugling and I was on a good bull two nights ago, gonna hunt him tonight! And I have a few big bucks that need some attention... I hate leaving any of them out.. honestly too much to hunt, too many choices, Good problem to have imo. I am very thankful that the terrain is so thick, steep and rugged and that the winds are a nightmare at times ... it protects and ensures good critters and age structure being around year in and out.
My bowhunting bucket list includes: Elk Mulies Caribou Bear Turkey and if afforded the opportunity some African plains game. So much to hunt and so little time.
Polar bear used to be at the top of my list but now that we can't bring them back into the US anymore I guess I'm at a loss... maybe I'll move to Canada; I moved here for brown bear. All I know for sure is that I want to bowhunt and keep on bowhunting. I'll take what comes my way in opportunities and animals. Next fall it's elk with Will, if the economy comes back maybe it'll be cape buffalo or water buffalo too.
That's a very generous offer, if you're serious, I will try :D.... Lots of great responses everyone... And a lot of species too
Have yet to take a turkey, hopefully that happens soon. Then after that (hopefully in the next few years) it would be black bear. Then once I do that, possibly elk? But that wouldn't be for many years into the future!
1. Elk 2. Moose 3. Wolf 4. Stone Sheep 5. Caribou I'm not sure if I'll ever get to hunt for wolf or sheep. The other hunts will come in the next 5-7 years. (not soon enough).
i have killed a buck, doe, and hog with my bow. i've missed a squirell hmmmmmm. I would love to hunt an elk, moose, caribou and a Bear with my bow. hey why not a turkey also.
